Interesting indeed.

It's also interesting that they'll pay us for making the tourney, but they won't make us customized gear for the tournament like they do for the bigger UA schools.

They know the bigger schools have more options to buy that merchandise and recoup some of that money...

SFA gear can be found at SFA bookstores, Wal-Mart in Nac, and maybe a couple of Academy's...I think once the brand grows more and you can find that SFA merchandise more easily accessible, you will start seeing us get some of those perks...

I live on the north side of Houston near The Woodlands. Surprisingly I do see SFA gear from time to time in Willowbrook Mall and occasionally in The Woodlands mall. A few months back I found a nice yard flag in the local ACE Hardware.

I can't find anything hardly in Kingwood. I don't venture into the Deerbrook Mall too often...Academy in New Caney never has anything.

Heck, even if they did a fanatics style fast iteration I'd buy it.

Wow, Willowbrook and Deerbrook malls, I haven't heard those names in awhile, brings back memories.

I lived in Greenspoint and Jersey Village from 1996 to 2007.

I was in Longview on business towards the end of last year I stopped into an Academy (maybe a Dicks) in Longview. I spotted numerous SFA hats and shirts.

Texas Tech is possibly in first place for teams I have NO interest in seeing us play.

Last time we faced probably the best Texas Tech team in program history. I think we would have a even better chance this year...And in Dallas!!

I know some people think we played a game against Tech in Dallas, but we didn't. Keller is 28-41 in four seasons with no postseason experience - though we did beat Duke and have a regular season championship.

From our VCU win just skip to Duke. We'll be looking for our third NCAA appearance for SFA.

Well played sir. Other than the final score, I still enjoyed whatever that was we attended in Dallas that had some guys on the floor in purple.

Sorry. Late posting for me last night. Didn't mean to get snarky.

I was just reminded again that we're not supposed to perceive history the way we experienced it. To me the main thing is the loss of promotional materials. To not be able to use those highlights and pictures from all those years is a tragedy. Everything is going to have to come from last season.

On a side note, I recently reread the judgment. It doesn't seem like we've fully complied on the website end of things. I hope we don't get docked for noncompliance on a compliance judgment.

I was perched way up in the nosebleed section of that NCAA "non-game" in Dallas, engulfed in a non-sea of Tech fans. It is permanently non-etched in my brain. I distinctly remember what appeared to be little non-ants in purple and white running up and down that non-floor, and the agony of the last five non-minutes.

Not being able to relive the highlights of those moments is pure NONSENSE.
BigJack85

Not sure if we are complying completely. Doubt it turns into anything. I personally think the vacation of wins was overdone. Many cases were players who had little or minimal impact on the program. Not willing to go through every instance but it seemed like overkill from the NCAA because we (SFA) don't have millions to spend on lawyers.

We did wrong no doubt, but the punishment was not consistent with other egregious infractions from others wealthier programs.

Ed I think I paid $100 to sit up there with you. Maybe from the cheap seats we couldn't make out who was really playing that day!

If I remember right, Shannon cramped up late and that could have been the difference I that non game.... With the Covid issue the NCAA should waive the year suspension from post play. Teams everywhere have suffered enough. Who knows what this year will bring

Along the lines of these last several posts....I just looked at the SFA edu site and there are 3 different jobs up right now that are compliance related. One dealt with Title 9 while the other two were athletic compliance jobs.
Did we lose somebody or are these new positions. Figure 76 might know.

Three jobs posted.

  • Program Associate Athletics (Compliance) - Intern administrative job in the athletic department.
  • Athletics Student Compliance Specialist - New job that came as a result of the infractions case. Athletic department. Certifying official.
  • Compliance Specialist - Title IX Investigations - This is an institution job, not an athletic department job. Title IX is more than athletics, although that is what most of us tend to think of. Reports to the Title IX Coordinator.

There have been no athletic department departures.

Hate to keep bringing it up but are we just expecting to hear nothing on Hart's departure? No transfer portal or anything? Seems odd to go through the summer and evidently start the semester and then just disappear?!?

was wondering about that. It seems that larger schools are more transparent about player situations than most Mid Majors.

Who would you expect to hear something from? The University never talks about disciplinary or academic issues if that is what it is.

It's not just basketball. For example, there is a senior VB player no longer on the roster. We will never hear why unless it is from her.

I'm not on twitter but you would think if he were unhappy with SFA he would take down all things having to do with the university?

Top level programs have two things that we don't really have: outspoken donors and active local media.

Any head coach worth their salt in a big market has to answer questions from the media. They can be evasive or frank, but if the reporters are good, then the program can't completely avoid the issues about what's happened to the athletes.

It's not as big as an issue under Keller because honestly he's never tried to run our program like it was a P5 program. But Underwood did try to build up the appearance of a top level program. Media days, post game pressers, frank local interview with Kevin Gore. But, even Underwood would never issue statements about any potential negative. It's one reason that he had trouble in his P5 transition. He kept trying to hide the negatives which you can do with no media, but can't at real programs.

The Sentinel and our TV stations only put out what the college gives to them - and only puff pieces if they need some filler. Our program will never be a top program like it is currently. Top team but not top program until we have a media that will help expose our coaches to a higher level of scrutiny.

Maybe no one else thinks that's a good thing, but it's honestly one of the things that drew me to this forum to begin with - that our sports would have some real exposure instead of being a covered up boys club that can do whatever they want. I think Keller is a top notch coach and person and leads a great team, but he got a strong pass in his third season. Hopefully his fourth is much more indicative of the future.

Part of the expectations has to do with compensation. We play "really well" compared to our SLC brethren. In conference USA we would be near the bottom. I think Keller is as responsive as he has to be given the expectations (won conference and be competitive in first couple rounds of the NCAA's.

Interesting takes nacluth. I don't agree, or don't understand a big chunk of it. But, that is fine.

The idea that SFA can't be a top level program unless media gets them to disclose specifics about what happened to an athlete is interesting. Some things about a student-athlete should never be made public from an ethical and legal point. Hence the ever popular "violation of team rules" that is used by virtually every coach.

"instead of being a covered up boys club that can do whatever they want" is puzzling to me. What within our current athletic department do you believe is going on that is being covered up?

I don't understand that comment either Fanatic. In the unfinished 2019-2020 season, there were exactly zero conference USA MBB teams with a better RPI than SFA.

The original question was whether there is ever going to be a statement on Hart. My main point is that we will never have a local media that can ask that question. SFA controls the media access, and local reporters have told me that they won't ask the unpleasant questions because SFA is the only game in town. If they make the college mad, they get no access.

It's just part of the reality of our small town. Keller won't ever have to answer questions publicly about freshman retention or losing two of his five top players in a season. I'm not trying to expose student athlete information, but what is happening on a program level.

As far as coverups, I am no conspiracy theorist, and I fully support our coaches and program. I want them to succeed at all levels. SFA sports has been insular for decades from my vantage point. I believe that's starting to change.

Isaac did a great thing by opening a way for fans to have access in the locker rooms and to the coaches. Since he left, it's closed back down some, but Ivey has helped keep things fairly open. The pre-COVID weekly pressers were great. It allowed insight into the structure of the program not just comments on game play.

I do think media scrutiny is a big deal that forces programs to be transparent about coaching decisions that we don't have in Nacogdoches. That's fine. We're not there and maybe never will be. Our access is donor dependent these days. That's not a bad thing either, but it gives fans a certain vantage point.
