I keep seeing things about John's situation/injury but nothing concrete. Why is there not more information coming out about him?

I don't know the exact cause or the exact injury he has.. I was just told that "losing John hurts" which I take it to be he is out... I didn't ask any more questions because if they wanted people to know then we would know... Hey we gotta freshman that is capable of giving us 15 solid minutes a game and was impressive to the NBA scouts that watched workouts.. Thats a huge huge positive in my book..

So does this mean a redshirt year for John?

Kevon Harris , Jr., G, Stephen F. Austin

The junior wing is a well-rounded player that exploded last season. He was the Lumberjacks' second-leading scorer (14.5 PPG) and rebounder (5.5 RPG), while contributing heavily on the defensive end. Harris can score from all three levels, and could well land on the NBA radar after this season, if he isn't already.

Shannon and TJ also mentioned.

I see where Sports Illustrated has the Alabama /SFA game as one of the top 50 games of the season. Starting to turn some heads.

Hopefully Hughes will give some good minutes. He is a pure shooter.

Walker
Walker is still a mystery to me. Are his main skills those of a pure PG - passing, ball security, running the offense? I followed Deuce very closely while he was at Houston Yates and know that he's mainly a pure shooter, but I know virtually nothing about O.

Has anyone been able to watch any of the practices and can give us a synopsis of what you've seen from all of the players, particularly the new guys? I'm really, really ready for some basketball!

Be nice if one of our new guys would get Newcomer status. Hoping that that someone will step up and fill the gap at the guard position. Still hoping that John can play. If the Powers That Be read this, consider throwing us a bone and give an update. It's been over six months since a post in the Sawmill Priemium. Just saying. Lol

My guess on Comeaux: They have time to figure out if they want to red shirt him so there is no hurry. If he is able to play in the spring they may not want to red shirt him so that they can have him when they really need an experienced backup point guard. Having experience in the post season is what you need to make a good run.

I am not a power that be but I have 1st hand knowledge..

Oddyst is a better more athletic Dallas Cameron and is a better shooter than Cameron was at SFASU..

Jock is a specialist- Which means this kid is a big time shooter big time...

Mitch has more dunks, blocks than some have seen in the last 3-4 years....

Thats solid info you can take to the bank...

Three studs. Three first team selections shows where people expect this team to be at the end of the year. It's time for these guys to show out.

Question for all: Which of our new guys do you see potentially having the biggest positive impact in the season ahead - Fitzgerald, Seraille, Walker, or Hughes?

I have to go with Fitzgerald. If we're going to go toe-to-toe with the Alabama's, Miami's, Buffalo's, and other majors in the postseason, we are going to need a greater inside presence than with TJ alone. Here's hoping he stays healthy all year.

What say ye, Sawmillers?

I'm in agreement with you Ed. I am also interested in seeing this potential lineup:

Augustin. G. Playing a 1-2 combo
Bogues. G
Kevon. F. Playing a 2-3 combo
TJ. F. Playing a straight 4
Fitzgerald F. Playing a 4-5 combo.

I know it's a little shifty but it gives us a big lineup with plenty of ball handling.....

Ed I have to say Mitch... He is blocking shots and rebounding and dunking like nobody has seen in a while...He is gonna surprise some people and be the first man off the bench for TJ or Fitz..

Put me down for Mitch as well...from the very little that I have seen of him, here's hoping that he comes in with some "spirit" that we are losing with Gilmore gone. Yates (high school) is not only always good, they tend to put on a good show as well. Looking forward to seeing if Hughes and Seraille bring some of that with them.
Nice to here BigJack make mention to a "big lineup"...we don't hear that very often

Agreed these must be the starting 5 to start the season with Seraille/Nieminen being the big men coming off the bench. Assuming Comeaux's injury keeps him off the court to start you have the freshman Walker/Hughes getting some time at guard. Not sure what Bain's role is since he has not played a lot in the past but sounded like Keller expected he will get some time as well. That is 10 and they tend to play 9-10 a game.

We have had issues with Baylor's big men pounding the glass in the past but we now have a lineup that has depth at the post position. I doubt we will play much "small ball" this year.

Louisiana Lafayette was the school that we were mainly competing with for his services at the end.

BTW, anyone know anything about the walk-on Walton? I've been out of the loop. So if it's been posted elsewhere point me in that direction.
In case you have not seen it, Walton's bio has been added to the roster. He has spent the last two years playing for the NJCAA D3 Richland College Thunderducks. Hopefully he serves as a good practice player.

Relative to the newcomer providing the biggest positive impact .... it depends.

If Comeaux is healthy, I think Fitzgerald early in the season and Seraille later. Fitzgerald's experience with D1 basketball wins out. I would like to see Seraille be able to be worked into the line up gradually.

If Comeaux is not available, it has to be Walker or Hughes. My primary concern today is who plays PG? I think Augustin will be fine. His lack of scoring is not as big a deal to me as it is to others as long as he takes care of the ball and plays tough defense without drawing fouls. Who is his backup? Bogues can play the point, but then you are taking him away from SG which is his best position. Harris can probably run some point, but I want him within 10-12' of the rim which sets him up for the three when he steps out. So, between Hughes and Walker, who manages the floor best and plays lock down defense? They both are scorers. I suspect Walker, who was not heavily recruited and was a late addition, might be the guy. If .... Comeaux is not available.

Yep. 76 just put forward my thoughts exactly. The biggest impact is who can play the point the best. Our team is going to live or die on our point play this season.

Is it just me or does Karl Nicholas look like are real potential wild card? He doesn't play this season correct??? He could be real contributor next year.

I mean this in a positive way. From what I read (unless I've got him confused with someone else) he can play the 2,3 or 4 slot in a pinch. His real strength is playing a 3/4 combo shooting forward/power forward. Am I off base ???
