This GCU being sued by the feds, is an embarrassment for the conference.

I put this here, as it would impact the WAC if SFA left the WAC for the SLC.

Is it a coincidence, or do we seem to be playing more SLC teams in golf/tennis … (almost every sport) than the previous 2 years combined?

Matt Norlander is reporting that GCU and Seattle are headed to the WCC in 2025. Imho the WAC is no longer sustainable unless they can pull in a Denver, ORU and UNC (Northern Colorado). Even with those adds it's a stretch. The writing appears to be on the wall. The WAC is dead unless Brian Thornton has a magic trick ready.

Looks like we can be headed back to the Southland.

Of the possible outcomes, going to the SLC is the worst imho. Looking at the 8 team fallout it could work in favor of staying in the WAC if we could play divisional (ACU/SFA/Tarleton/UTA) for all of the minor sports (soccer, tennis, track and field volleyball). 2X your division 1X across divisions at worst. Not having SU in the mix will bring travel cost down and allow us to further improve rivalries with ACU Tarleton and UTA.

If there's any truth to DU and ORU looking at the WAC, that would work things out in a very solid way. I hope we don't get trigger happy and return to the SLC without serious consideration of the upside if the WAC stays together.

With best regards

Hope you are reading Mr McBroom.

UT Arlington to the MVC? One article (Peoria Journal Star) has UT Arlington as a top candidate. ORU also listed.

Matt Brown(Extra Points) had some interesting reporting on the future of the WAC today.

The remaining 7 members(post 2025) are looking at a 2 year agreement that increases exit fees, but invests the exit money directly in the remaining programs(better broadcast quality, payouts to reduce House settlements, etc).

All 7 members have taken calls from other conferences, some have had site visits, and 2 have current, commitable offers from other conferences.

But the current consensus is wait 2 years and see how the Pac2 shakeout goes. They could either have more candidates to add in expansion, or better landing spots than they currently posses(or the same landing spots, but ability to snag the 6 million in exit cash split across 7 members).

Obviously CBU/WCC is not one of the commitable offers or they'd already be gone. My sincere guess is that either the Southland or the ASUN made a run at ACU/Tarleton.

So looks like we may not be reunited with ACU for another few years at earliest.

I know the exit fees that we pay will prop up the WAC for a short while. In the end , traveling (in some cases - CBU) across two time zones, is really detrimental to the student athletes. Tarleton has lofty ambitions. There ambitions may end up being a mirage as CUSA seems to have hit a workable roster.

If the MWC and the PAC2 combine in some way, we might see another opportunity. We could factor into a CUSA rebuild around 2026. Who knows. It seems to me that huddling in the SLC is not the worst decision we could have made.
