This is phenomenal for SFA and will change the trajectory of the school and its priorities. Is this because of the money spent on the Forestry department and Engineering program. If so that is great. There will be people who will not be happy because it will upset the power structure. I say so be it. Good for the University.

I think most of us were disappointed when we took such an enrollment hit during Covid.

Now We appear to have regained momentum. I heard that Weaver thinks we can hit 15k by the 2030. We are going to need more dormitories / housing. Or change SFA's off campus policy and allow kids with 55 hours to move off campus. What's next? Will my beloved (tongue in cheek) Zoo / Dorm 14 become a casualty to progress. Probably yes. Just saves some bricks for us that want one for posterity.

Notice it says APPLICATIONS, not enrollment numbers. Also, huge housing issue. Half of their veteran recruitment team have moved on as well. We shall see how this all shakes out.

I say , drop the housing requirement and let the kids stay where they want. Accept as many as possible and grow the University.

I humbly disagree. Living on campus is a distinctive part of SFA's culture. My suggestion. Lower the requirement from 60 hours to 44-50 hours. Question…. is there enough off campus housing to accommodate to forecasted growth over the next few years.

The private sector has made a huge investment in housing around college towns. There are apartments and rental units everywhere. Many kids rent houses 30 to 45 minutes from campus and drive in when needed. My son will take 15 hours this semester and only has to attend class twice a week. That's because the online system has taken over.SFA can build additional dorms but that would take possibly years to approve and build. The money needs to be coming in to SFA now not in 5 years.

SFA needs to think critically about the housing situation and find creative solutions to ensure incoming students are appropriately housed.

The major issue imo is parking. The old way of doing things needs to change.

There's always tons of open parking spots in the lot across from the Johnson coliseum. Students complain about having to walk 10-15 minutes to class from there.

I think there's probably no campus anywhere in the USA that has adequate parking in the center of campus because that's where buildings go, not parking lots.

Who can blame them when it is storming outside.

That's what the shuttle buses are for.

Try riding the shuttle and see if that is something you would want to do on a daily basis.

There were no shuttles when I was there. I walked. Regardless of weather. Both on campus and off.

I'm with you 76. The concern is overblown.

I've spent a lot of time on college campuses from Big 12 , Lone Star, Southland etc. The product that I represent is commonplace in universities.

SFA's parking situation seems "way above average" from what I've seen.

If you are young man dealing with it is 1 thing but if you are a young lady and having to deal with it is another.
I hate to say it but times have changed since the 80s

I'm 63. A stroll around campus shouldn't be that difficult.

SFA parking is just fine. My daughter just graduated from UT Tyler and yes parking was not close for students. It's just a matter of convenience that students want. I work on a college campus where students have to walk a bit. So be it! Most campuses do a great job making "young ladies" feel safe if that is what is being referenced as well. I rode the commuter bus from the football parking lot in the 80's and made it work.

I did this in the early 2000's and never really thought of it as a hindrance. It was just part of the routine to get to class.
