Tactics like this infuriate me.

What exactly is the Higher Ed coordinating board doing if they're letting A&M put nursing programs 20 miles from our campus? Despicable.

SFA BOR President Brigettee Henderson, is the wife of AC Trustee Trey Henderson.

Note that this agreement between the two schools was done three years ago.

AC has had a nursing program for several years.

Edit: Former AC trustee Trey Henderson. I forgot he had gotten off the board in the last year or so.

I definitely think they should have a nursing program at Angelina. It's the fact that A&M rolls into town to provide a Bachelor's & Master's that's complete BS IMO.

Speaking of SFA nursing.

Awesome to see the Nurse Practitioner program. We should add in a Physician's Assistant program as well.

They are going to make a huge difference in healthcare access in East Texas.

I guess if you get bored listening to Steve, he will let you take a nap on one of his mattresses.

I was not aware that SFA used to be part of the Texas State University system.

Here's the bill that changed it.

Any idea why we left the Texas State Uni system?

I believe all state universities used to be technically run by the state. The separation of the schools into independent bodies was a recognition that it was too much for one organization to handle from afar.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Gotcha. Seemed weird that we exited while others like Sam Houston & Sul Ross stayed in.

SFA athletes back then were awarded lettermen's jackets with the letter "T" (for Texas) on them.

Guess they have never asked women walking to the commuter lot at 10 pm after a night class. I would always talk to someone on my cellphone while walking. I heard they are moving commuter lot behind tge library, which should help.

On a different note, V would call and get campus police escort to dorm bc she had to work at the radio station until 2 a.m. it took them awhile to get to her but she always waited. She told them to get used to it bc she would call them every single night she worked late lol

I meet my brother and go running through the campus between 8:30-10:00pm about three times a week. Obviously being 40 year old males running together, we feel pretty safe on campus. However, in the last two years, the amount of on campus lighting has improved significantly. It definitely gives the feel of more safety and there are more students taking advantage of the lighted areas. Wilson Drive, behind Hall 20, and behind the Boynton building are still quite dark.

Yup...totally different for males. The bus system has improved but still doesn't run that late. There was a creeper when i was going undergrad & grad. One with V, too. I do think it is getting better.

I usually try to stay fairly observant, but I can attest that it's definitely a different feeling when you're a tall dude. There are few places I've ever been in my life to cause much concern, but I'd be worried if my wife was walking to the coffee shop on her own.

I did get the bejeebus scared out of me at SFA early one morning before dawn. Me, my wife, & a good friend were all out running and had turned to run through the Azalea garden. About midway through, something somewhat large ran across the path right in front of us. You've never seen 3 people hit the brakes so fast. We ran into each other like a cartoon as we all tried to stop & then hightailed it the other direction.

It's funny now, but at the time my brain was convinced that East Texas had imported grizzly bears, though I'd guess it was probably a raccoon or pig or something.

This question might of been asked and answered before but I couldnt remember why.. The question is why doesnt SFASU offer a General Studies degree?? Reason I ask is becasue most other Universities have them and that is one of the things that holds SFA back from getting transfers from larger universities and such unlike Sam and some of the other FCS schools.

Good question. I'm interested in that also.

I believe they do. They just call it something different. It could have changed, but I had a buddy who graduated 17 years ago with a degree in interdisciplinary studies. Essentially he started as a psychology major and switched to computer science. At some point he had too many hours but not enough to complete a degree tract. Someone essentially said he could graduate with the interdisciplinary tag. Don't know for sure if they still do that, but wouldn't be surprised.

The multidisciplinary studies degree sounds a lot like a general studies degree.

Interdisciplinary studies is a masters program

Thanks 76... I agree it sure does sound like a General Studies Degree.. That is some good info.. after researching it doesn't have much room for electives to transfer which other universities General Studies degrees do..This will be something Ryan can go to the new President and ask for help.. Because it will help get transfer players accepted into our university a lot easier because right now it's really hard..

What ranking is this?

I take most, if not all of these rankings with a grain of salt I've seen SFA being put up reasonably high for regional universities in the US New and World Report,,, The rationale can be almost completely subjective. For example Texas A&M International in Laredo gets very high rankings, when they have very low average SAT scores and poor graduation rates. They don't make sense in many cases.

.

I wish Texas Tribune or someone would rank individual degree programs in the state. It'd be great to know which schools are good for which majors.

4460 was way ahead of me on this, as usual. There are transfer academic requirements at SFA that do not exist at other SLC universities. I have recently heard of some outstanding players that have gone to the competition because their electives would not transfer to us. Some of these are at P5 schools that would essentially have to give up a year of playing to transfer. Hence, the desire by our staff to have a General Studies degree. As far as transfers are concerned, this is by far the biggest obstacle to recruiting. Not facilities, location, etc.

This pisses me off to no end.

https://moodyf.org/press/moody-foundation-donates-130m-to-ut-new-arena-to-be-named-moody-center/

$130 million to UT Athletics. I suppose it'll make its way to academics somehow, but still.

How does funding UT Athletics accomplish Moody's mission?

Meanwhile I'd be surprised if we can get 5 million out of Moody.

TallTexan

Moody getting busy on handing out money.

100 million to name a school when 100 million is our entire campaign. Just Wow.
