I don't think we'll be a favorite but just because we are replacing so many players we have no clue what we'll have. I have confidence Keller will get us ready by conference play but there will be a growing period where we will probably not look good.
I hope I'm wrong. But I'm expecting that rough start we usually have.

Ya. It's hard to say. I don't know why, but I'm more confident than usual. Probably the backcourt. This could be one of our best backcourts in 5-6 years. If Tezeno continues to progress, look out.

It's easy to overhype a team this time of year but we have some solid players back that should make a big impact. The core is there. We know that the backcourt is solid and if Monty and Jilil is as good as advertised along with Day Day we should be fine.

I don't think we've ever had a team with depth like this. Depth where basically everyone could play AND contribute.

That doesn't mean it will work out of course, but the athleticism and skills these guys have from top to bottom is different than years past.

I think that's where we've seen the differences in our really good teams vs our average teams. Our good teams have good leadership and a few big players, with 4-5 others that you can count on to contribute. Our average teams have a few stars, but the rest are inconsistent or just not good enough.

I think you'll see a different mentality with this years team.

Totally agree, we are stacked 1-3. Also I think that we are going to be really happy with the bigs on how good they play. Just really like the make up of the team and how young we are. My player to watch for is Kyle Hayman. He was deadly shooting the 3 ball last year in Juco. Just really think he is going to be a big addition.

With no schedule published, I'm going to make a crazy guess and say, "we are having trouble finding D1 competition that is willing to come to Nacogdoches" . Not looking forward to seeing a schedule that is heavy on LeTourneau and Centenary. Not that we shouldn't schedule one or two schools of that caliber, after all - that is how KU, Duke, Kentucky and others view SFA.

Here's to having 2 or 3 , positive surprises in the schedule.

As of today, 315 of 363 D-1 schools have released their non-conference schedules. SFA isn't one of them. That means there's fewer and fewer D-1 schools left to play, which will mean (I assume) the usual sprinkling of D-2, D-3, and NAIA schools on our schedule.

Idk. But from what I can see , the athletic department is doing an outstanding job of promoting volleyball. And it shows I watched the SFA vs Tarleton WVB game. If the success with volleyball (which is pretty euro sell) is any indication, I believe student engagement is much improved. Significantly.

That's 29 games so far (with only one non-division I opponent), so I would not think that many more would be added.

Playing in the WAC alone will be great for the RPI, just a solid basketball conference from top to bottom.

My guess is they are trying to sweet talk a mid-December game from a named school which is why they haven't released the schedule. If they don't get one soon, this is probably what we got.

"On Paper" this non-conference slate should be a 8-9 win thing. A couple of these are tough. La Tech and South Dakota St. Furman could be a tough one.

7 wins for the nonconference slate is what I'm going to call the "ok" line. 9 is good. 10+ is great.

Great is possible which is I think a realistic view.
