The problem with Tech is Lubbock is such a difficult town to recruit in. Compared to Austin, College Station, the DFW or Houston area or Nacogdoches, Lubbock just isn't the most appealing town for top prospects.
Watch old interviews with Mike Leach and he will explain that the whole reason he ran the air raid on steroids he ran was because it was impossible to get top talent, so he had to run an offense that gave him the best chance with what he had. Kliff can coach but he didn't really have that eye foe recruiting.
Maybe Graham could take what he learned from Leach recruiting wise and help get players who actually want to play for Tech.

UTSA and Jeff Traylor have agreed to a contract extension, the school announced.

Traylor's contract runs through 2031 and will pay him an average annual salary of $2.8 million. Total contract value over the life of the deal is $28 million.

UTSA making some moves with Texas Tech and TCU jobs open.

Make sure you get a nice buyout check if Traylor leaves.

Traylor deserves all the money and attention for coaching and running a program, as he knows how to do it.

I would love to see Traylor at TCU, but UTSA made a strong play to keep him last night. Excellent job on their part.

I honestly don't see Traylor leaving. He's turning UTSA into one of those schools we used to call BCS busters. Kind of like what Boise State used to be.

Maybe enough on the bottom half lost for us to have a case at the 25 or 24 spot. Maybe.

My biggest reason for having complete confidence we make the playoffs is how much better this team is both on paper and talent wise than the 2014 team that made it with an 8-3 record. And that team got destroyed by Sam Houston and beat by a transitioning ACU team.

We are better in EVERY facet of the game. The biggest improvement is the offensive line. Half the time under Conque they couldn't provide average pass protection. I witnessed first hand at HBU a few years ago.

Hill was on the selection committee that year. I'm not saying he voted for us or that it was that great of a FCS year, but that team really probably didn't deserve to be there.

. You're dead on. We got trounced by Northern Iowa (I think) in the first round We didn't belong.

Gus was great. I wish he was still playing for us now.

Still baffles me that despite his amazing preseason, and apparently being outstanding during practice no team wanted him because of his speed.

That worries me because that just means I'm 3-4 years they're gonna be looking again….

McGuire is good. I think he can do well in Lubbock. I'm more concerned with other potential moves...
TCU is yet to hire, but I don't think he is on their radar.

I don't think Carthel leaves for a school he doesn't really have ties too. That's what worried me(still does for the future) about Tech. But I don't think we lose Carthel until we win a natty. In other words the end of next season.

Colby's dad left coaching for nine years to farm. He did it for time with his family, not because he likes to farm. Colby is very much like his dad. I think he could do the same. Maybe not farming, but something not coaching. If he leaves for another coaching job, it will be to a school that can pay his assistants a competitive wage, not because he can make a lot more. We don't pay competitive wages. Sam, tor example, is way ahead of us.

And we have a higher budget than Sam by about a million.
