A game of local interest this Saturday... McNeese State at Tarleton at 6:00 p.m. It's sure to be a cold one! Expected high Saturday in Stephenville of 31 degrees. (Another reason to the thankful that we played in the Fall!)

This will be Tarleton's first game as an official FCS team, playing as an Independent.

Also, McNeese is ineligible for NCAA FCS playoffs this year due to academic issues.

The MEAC has suspended its Spring football season and have no conference championship. Six of the nine football-playing schools have voted to not play. Apparently, three of the schools still plan to play as independents -- Delaware State, Howard, and South Carolina State

Yet again, thanks, Coach Carthel, for playing a Fall schedule!

McNeese defeated Tarleton 40-37 in two OT's.

Tarleton plays at New Mexico State this Sunday. McNeese will host UIW next Saturday.

Nicholls defeated D-II Lincoln (Mo.) 87-3. Eight players scored on TD runs, and two QB's each threw two TD passes. It was the most points ever scored by Nicholls.

Nice job of scheduling, Nicholls.

It appears that New Mexico State has only one more game, vs. Dixie State. The Aggies are a joke.

Tarleton is not gonna be a joke....they were an FCS level team when they played us. Now they're just building it up.

It's all UIW against #20 McNeese State 31-3 at the half in Lake Charles.

The Cards have 342 total yards at 10 yards per play while holding McNeese State to 180 total yard less than 5 yards per play.

Their young Freshman QB Cameron Ward has completed 17 passes (68% CMP) for 254 yards and 3 TDs 0 INTs.

41-10 UIW over #20 McNeese in the 4th.

Is the FCS dynasty finally over? Southern Illinois thrashes NDSU 38-14.

WOW! 39 game win streak finally comes to an end.

Caught their game last week against Youngstown and NDSU didn't look too hot. They were good, but not as good as we are accustomed to seeing them

Dixie State is no joke, they are taking it to Tarleton 23-14 3rd Quarter. (Tarleton just returned a KO for a TD)

Dixie State won 6 straight in their final season in Division II and they got that BYU QB transfer Cody Wilstead 6-7; 230 who has completed 16 passes for 301 yards and 1 TD in this game.

I don't think the Trailblazers are going to be the weak link in WAC football that some think they will be.

I think a big part of it is they are playing who was essentially supposed to be their backup QB. Their starter decided not to play this year to declare for the nfl draft, do which he's likely gonna be a 1st round pick. Their offense requires them to be set at all positions, and right now they don't seem to have leadership on their side.

That's over 900 yards on 61 completions and 6 TDs and no INTs.

Looks like Prison Tech's defense will be their Achilles Heel in the Fall. We'll have lots of offensive weapons to throw at them.

Due to declining enrollment and subsequent loss of income, Eastern Washington is considering several changes to its athletics programs. A commissioned report listed the following options:

Option A: Remain an NCAA Division I FCS program

Option B: Reclassify to NCAA Division I Subdivision (non-football)

Option C: Reclassify to Division II

Option D: Reclassify to Division III

EWU funding has fallen well below the median FCS level and that of its peer programs in the Big Sky Conference. Their athlectic programs are losing about $5 million a year. The university surveyed the top 100 donors and season ticket holders, and 35% said they would likely drop their support if football was eliminated.

EWU will now take public comments and meet with students and faculty groups to seek inpiut. It will soon be decision time at EWU.

Wow! They've had really good FCS football success. I saw them play for the championship many moons ago vs Delaware.

Did you see the Matt Brown article on it?

It's an interesting thought experiment for sure.

A: You keep football at it's current level. People in Texas know who you are because your football team is good enough to make that the case & that makes your diplomas more valuable.

B. You drop down in football, cut your expenses on scholarships, you still lose money,but not nearly as much. Attendance doesn't drop that much because most fans don't know the difference between Montana State and Montana State Billings.

C. You drop football altogether. You save an immense amount of money but 35% of donors are out the door. How much money do those 35% account for is a great question. How much of the campus atmosphere & comraderie is based on it? Etc.

An interesting choice to be sure.

I did read the story. Interesting for sure. Very interesting. I think the WAC move and associated decision to institute largely divisional competition is a effort to control costs while increasing our profile and potential revenue streams.

Prison Tech destroyed Nicholls today 71-17.

Nicholls has been extremely overrated all year. Sam is legit though.

Eric Schmid in two games against two top 20 teams has completed 46 passes for 794 yards and 8 TDS and no INTS.

They just reload every damn year at QB.

It's a combination of offense and personnel. When we ran an air raid offense we started off with the perfect players for it lead by Jeremy Moses. The problem was we didn't recruit for it, and ended up with a team that did much better in a more pro style offense years later.
The problem with an air raid is while sometimes it makes your players look like studs and puts up unreal stats, it's easy to beat if you have a good defense, which is why they never make it in the playoffs and why teams like NDSU and JMU are the championship contenders. That's exactly what happened to us against Montana and then the next year against Villanova.

Long story short, their offense can beat SLC teams, but against teams that recruit well and can game plan, it gets their offense off the field quickly and fizzles out quickly.

Also if you watched highlights, Nicholls defense was absolutely trash. There's blown coverage, and then there's whatever Nicholls did. It made our 2013 defense look competent.

They are good. Maybe very good. Perhaps playing in the spring was exactly right for them, just as playing in the fall was exactly right for us.
