"We're going to play a style unlike anybody else in the country, in terms of our speed, aggression, the effort that we play with, the discipline that we play with."
DC Mike
I hope this statement holds up well come the end of the season.
Of course Fanatic is correct that learning new systems is not a perfect science and there will be a learning curve.
Looking forward to the season as I always do, with a bit of a "show me" attitude this time around.
Definitely sounds like the style of defense we ran in the 2021 playoff run. Hopefully we see something similar. Get after the QB every play. Attack the ball. If we have a high scoring offense to go with even half of what that defense was we will be very hard to beat.
It sounds good and all, but we better first have an offense that can sustain long drives, or the defense will burn out, especially in this heat, pretty quickly if on the field too long.
I definitely agree, and that's what kind of worries me about the new offense. There's a reason it's rare for fast paced air raid offenses to win championships. Drives go way too fast. Even long drives generally don't take much time off the clock, meaning your defense will be on the field a very long time.
With JC Harper, the offense was nice but the defense always gave up record amounts of yards. And that wasn't a testament to how bad they were talent wise. Remember essentially the same team had a really good defense in the first year under Conque. The only real difference was Harper's defenses were on the field much longer and depth got exposed fast.
If we have depth on defense, this won't matter as much. If we don't, we need to hope our offense doesn't have a bad game.
