Let's get settled. Waiting to see that 2-deep.

Does Maurer have the possibility of coming back after game 2 or 3?

The style of play that Coach Mutz describes is not something the guys will learn and perfect overnight. There are sure to be ups and downs. But I for one am excited to see how it plays out over the course of the season.

They updated the roster again, so there is another QB transfer, this one from Cal Poly.

I thought I saw a #19 red jersey in practice videos.

QB:#19 KAHLIQ PAULETTE 6-1; 185 (JR.)
G:12;ATT:58;CMP:26;CMP%:45.0;YDS:261;TD:2;INT:1;/R:37;YDS:161;TD:1 (stats at Cal Poly)

Played his high school football in San Antonio at Veterans Memorial High where he was 1st team all-district and All-City over 3,700 yards of offense and 45 TDs.

Had offers to Lamar, East Central, Fresno State, Cal Poly

I hope this statement holds up well come the end of the season.
Of course Fanatic is correct that learning new systems is not a perfect science and there will be a learning curve.

Looking forward to the season as I always do, with a bit of a "show me" attitude this time around.

Definitely sounds like the style of defense we ran in the 2021 playoff run. Hopefully we see something similar. Get after the QB every play. Attack the ball. If we have a high scoring offense to go with even half of what that defense was we will be very hard to beat.

You have to think with who is coming back and with the exception of the two defensive line men who are gone now, this is what you have.

Will have to see who wins those jobs in the middle and the other edge on the defensive front.

Our LBs and secondary could be the best in the conference.

Offense is the big toss up, so many new faces and youth.

RB will be the three headed monster.

Whoever they go with on the OL, there is just not a lot of game time experience on the roster and there will be some growing pains.

It sounds good and all, but we better first have an offense that can sustain long drives, or the defense will burn out, especially in this heat, pretty quickly if on the field too long.

I definitely agree, and that's what kind of worries me about the new offense. There's a reason it's rare for fast paced air raid offenses to win championships. Drives go way too fast. Even long drives generally don't take much time off the clock, meaning your defense will be on the field a very long time.

With JC Harper, the offense was nice but the defense always gave up record amounts of yards. And that wasn't a testament to how bad they were talent wise. Remember essentially the same team had a really good defense in the first year under Conque. The only real difference was Harper's defenses were on the field much longer and depth got exposed fast.

If we have depth on defense, this won't matter as much. If we don't, we need to hope our offense doesn't have a bad game.

Vidlak is definitely the most experienced, and he did start some games for a national finalist last year. That maturity could be priceless. But we'll see. Might see a few different guys alternating snaps the first few games.

Agree. With an opponent like North American I would hope (expect) that we are out to a huge lead by the middle of the 2nd quarter, and begin rotating in at QB. Hopefully we can go "3" deep at QB and have a little idea of what we have.
