Going to be very young on the DL, but very experienced at LB and in the secondary. It will be interesting to see how the Jacks are against the run, and getting pressure on the QB.

If not Vidlak, then I'd say

QB: #12 DALTON MCELYEA 6-3; 196 (JR.)
G:3;ATT:0;CMP:0;CMP%:0.0;YDS:0;TD:0;INT:0;/R:2;YDS:21;TD:1

He looked really good in the Spring Game with his timing.

Vidlak comes in with a ton of experience, in QB rooms and on the field. Started four games at Montana (not a bad thing to have on his resume'), with previous stops at Oregon State and Boise State, so he's been exposed to high-level football programs. Coaches at all three schools talked about how intelligent he is, describing him as a "cerebral pocket passing QB". Apparently he's not extremely mobile.

Sorry to see Jarvis Anderson off the roster. The young deaf man had an interesting story and had seen bits of action. Wish him well.

What happened there. I just watched a story on ABC13 in Houston about him. Did he move over to track only?

I think that is it, just going to focus on track.

He left the team after spring ball. Don't think he was able to keep up with our other QBs to a point he'd never see the field and the coaches probably didn't see a position change as being beneficial. Not uncommon. He only had a couple of college snaps his entire career.

Ya. A little. My reasoning would be: 1) WEAK opponent. Not going to garner a huge Saturday crowd regardless. 2) Gives us an extra 2 - 3 days for recovery/reset vs North Texas. 3) The few (I'm thinking a couple hundred) out of town die hards (me) that were considering driving up for North American, will just move that trip to Northern Colorado or NWST

Add that there will be virtually no students on campus Labor Day weekend.

Also, since VB plays Sam in Huntsville on that Saturday, those that care about our women's sports can go there rather than Nac for football.

In my opinion, this was a great decision.

Ed Babino and Jeremiah Walker did a great job in today's SLC media show. Neither of them were shy with a microphone in their hands, and they're both mature guys and excellent speakers. Great representatives of SFA.

Coach Carthel mentioned a QB having a bad injury near the end of Spring ball and that the QB position is "sort of up-in-the-air". I obviously missed that.
Was he referring to Maurer?? Info, anyone?

Maurer. Elbow. That's why he didn't play in the spring game.

Yeah, I'm guessing his injury was much worse than we originally thought when he sat out in the spring. If it's still lingering this far out, someone in that room is going to have to step up.

Thankfully, the first game is the perfect to break in a new arm until Maurer is healthy.

True. Vidlak does have the athleticism to still run some of the designed runs Maurer was going to bring to the table. I'm sure the new OC got with him as soon as possible to study the new offense all summer.

Worth noting he was the QB in the media day photo shoot.

In the media day interview Carthel said (something like) the Jacks would be "throwing the ball all around the field". Personally, I like the sound of that. Should make for some fun times in Homer Bryce.

The QB situation has me a little concerned. I assumed we would start Maurer and have some continuity. The kid from Montana looks solid but I was banking on him being a backup. Well…..

He should be, his staff brought in 22 FBS/FCS transfers and about half of those transfers were actually starters at some point at their previous school.

And I think the biggest of that group is Jordan Nabors from Baylor, with his world class speed, who can do KR,PR,WR, and RB.

You get offers from Baylor, Texas Tech, Colorado, Florida State, Michigan State, Miss. State, Penn State, Tennessee, and Utah to name a few for that speed.

I would also add Qualan Jones as well.

What is your take on the offense, given Maurer might be out (injury) for at least a couple of games. Maybe longer.

I think Vidlak can mange things with his skill and experience, but McElyea whose been around now made some pretty impressive throws in the Spring game, maybe Rutherford can get some game time opportunity as well.
