I don't think the process is changed. There are always a couple of retreads. Whether they get out for a few years for personal reasons, or get pushed out, football defines them. Ego drives them. They crave the spotlight. Miles and Brown were always going to coach at least one more time.

Leach will never go back to Tech. That bridge is long burned. The latest hot name for that job is Dana Holgorsen, although that may or may not have legs. Believe it is not, the latest name for Texas State is Kendal Briles.

I have no idea which way we go. Probably some of the names we have floated are potentials. None of us knows who has inquired about the job, so it may be a name we have not thought about. I do believe Ivey knows exactly what he is looking for. He is two for two in HC hires. I trust him to continue his perfect record.
There's always a couple of retreads, but rarely so high profile ones as this year with Miles and Brown. I think that since we happen to be hiring, that's some downward pressure on the process that benefits us.

Sure, we still can't go hire Kliff, but with some of the names out there for the Tech job, it looks like Littrell may have to bide his time for another year. Which could help us with a candidate like Harrell. I don't think it completely blows the process open, just makes the guys we were likely considering as being a stretch goal hire slightly less of a stretch.

But for all I know, Ivey's already picked out a guy and is just working on the particulars of the contract.

Bingo! I'm thinking that you're probably right. He said that he wanted someone by December 1 so that person can be in place for the early signing period. I doubt seriously that he would still be looking around at this point.

I'd bet not. Or atleast has it down to just a few candidates.

We need to hire somebody to tail Ivey so we can get the details lol.

I believe Ryan stated to the press that he wanted to have someone in place by the first of December. As many contracts as I have been a part of, I am pretty sure he already has an agreement with the new coach and the contract is being worked through and reviewed/revised this week. I hope for the team sake he sticks to his target of 1st of December.

SFAJack, that's why we pay you the big bucks.

Scotty Walden is not a name I've heard yet, but here's an awesome article on him by Vice:

So I'm pretty sure we're definitely hiring Scotty Walden, him and Keller speak the same language.

Quote:

He speaks in a blaring Texas drawl, often in his own distinct vernacular: players are "cats"; most everyone else is "dude" or "brother" or a "joker"; "100 percent" means an assent.

Wow! I'm suddenly a huge fan of Scotty Walden!! He would be someone who would really invigorate the program, the student body, the alums, the players, and potential recruits!

BTW, whoever wrote the story about the SFA coaching search apparently just copy-and-pasted from the posts here on the Sawmill FB Forum. Just sayin'...

Yep, I read that article and it seems like a no-brainer. Ivey just wanted to find someone we hadn't mentioned, but dang, he seems like the future. Spread with a power run game? Young guy? Boiling over with energy?

Sounds like the coach we need.

Relative to the Eargle family medical emergency.

Well, if the Eargle family is up for the move, and the additional pressures of being a HC, why not:

Eargle -HC
Walden - OC
Byrd - DC

Byrd, who knows. The players like and respect him. After being the interim, is he okay with stepping back in the same location?

Great article. I think Walden as HC could be the SFA version of "Willie Fritz"!! I am still a big fan of Carthel, however, giving Walden a shot may be a excellent move!!

If you look at my post from last week when I had the conversation with Ryan.. I can now see why he would like Walden"Someone who can communicate well with our student/athlete"... Our new coach might just be Walden... I am ok with that..

If we're gonna hire Walden, I'm gonna have to update my 5 year plan because he's only a few months older than me lol.

I'm getting outhustled in the career department.

76 I would say you get rid of all coaches... Not because they cant coach but because we need a clear cut leader and no favorites from old regime. New coaches= new competition for playing spots.

SFAJack_76
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Jacks4460, I have said the same. Byrd would be the only exception I would be okay with. Moses goes too. He has been a placeholder for too long. Ultimately, it has to be up to the new HC to build his team.

Sources tell FootballScoop that TCU co-offensive coordinator Curtis Luper, also an SFA alum, was approached by SFA representatives but declined an opportunity to interview.

Saw that. But I can see why he'd pass after not being hired last time.

Which one of you posted this? I had to laugh.

"My Lumberjacks need something. A coach who could find defensive backs who can actually follow a football in the air, and who have the ball skills to actually look at it and figure out where it might come down instead of mimicking the legally blind version of the Bad News Bears on a pop fly, would be a good start."

I didn't realize Jeff Traylor was that good with
recruiting until reading some of these posts. This would be a good choice for SFA imo

Recruiting is what got him to Texas. It was to secure a couple of Gilmer recruits and help him lock down Brandon Jones from Nac. Plus there are plenty of rumors of how his team remained so talented over the years...(GJ Kinne - Texas, Tulsa; Blake Lynch - Baylor)

If you see someone in a RB or TE role, they're usually there for a huge focus on recruiting. Traylor is a good recruiter but is also known to be a pretty great offensive mind.

If I had to bet on it, I'd say Walden and Traylor have that potential based on what their peers think.

Gotta wonder though what's tougher, rebuilding Kansas or building UTA?

I'm wondering when we'll see an announcement. Dec 1st is a saturday and will be overshadowed by Championship weekend IMO.

Seems like today or tomorrow would be the ideal announcement day.
