Aqua makes the point well. FCS has such a low profile. Sometimes I'd rather see us try to be regional soccer power. Homer Bryce would be an excellent field given some modifications
The regional schools of note that play D1 soccer include SMU, Tulsa, Memphis, Vanderbilt etc.
I don't disagree with Aqua, FCS football doesn't move the needle on anything except fall saturdays on Campus. Doesn't do much at all for marketing.
But I'd add the following two thoughts: One, I don't think we're canceling football anytime soon(I wouldn't be opposed), so if we're going to sponsor football, we might as well win. I'm not 100% sure of our football expense, though I'd bet we spend a couple million. So an extra 100k above our current salary levels for a better coach is not that big of an ask IMO.
Two, while Basketball is our ladder to nationwide prestige, football could be a factor in moving conferences one day, so let's build a good program while we can. If we competed on Sam's level in football & our level in basketball, with our great fanbase, I think we'd be a target for a G5 level conference looking to expand.
Basketball is our bread, butter, & dessert, but football might add a little garnish to the meal.
