So my thoughts on the game:

It definitely didn't feel like previous battle of the piney woods. It felt equal, and honestly the atmosphere was better than previous years.

Our defense is no joke. We manhandled the sam oline and held their potent running attack in check. I wonder how the game would have been had Schmid played and would Carthel had made some of the same coaching decisions that I think impacted the game.

I didn't agree with us letting off of the gas at the end of the first and not throwing the ball on the final drive to get better position. I think Carthel outcoached himself there.

SFA will be in the playoffs.

Last thought, and then I move on to Jacksonville State. We have lost ten in a row to Sam. This team has lost one. Remember where we were only two years ago.

Only my opinion. I was ok with sitting on the last 1:25 in the first half, a strip sack and another score was gonna happen with the momentum Sam ( and their fans) were bringing. With the loss of guillory it was becoming difficult to keep self upright. And although we shouldn't play our game with the fear of a negative, we are only a couple games into the season. We can surely agree our #2 qb is not the caliber as Sams #2 and we still have an entire season and playoffs. I'm not disappointed at the effort by the players and the coaches and am a bit disappointed in our fan performance. When they had a positive it nearly blew your hat off, we only "cheer". We have an excellent product let's get behind them. The "dumb penalty" was an effort forced penalty and BJ Thompson has no shame by me. He kept us in the game all afternoon. I wasn't sure what video they white hat was watching but the ball clearly hit the turf and even rotated which was a huge swing. Good ball game and even though folks hate hearing how good we are gonna be, Sam players have nearly 3 years more under their belt, let us grow from yesterday and move on

FYI, I read today that Prison Tech's #2 QB is on partial scholarship. Their coach said that would change shortly. A reward, obviously.

Also, look at the six highlighted SFA players in the game summary on the Athletics website... Redshirt Freshman, Sophomore, Redshirt Freshman, Sophomore, Sophomore, Junior. Anyone think this team won't be a national contender next year?!?!

Bucky/76, I get your point about running out the first half clock, that said after the first down run of 7 we were sitting on our own 37 yard line. At that point I would have thrown on 2nd to try and move the ball. We were 30-35 yards away from decent FG position and a score before half would have been huge for us.

Regarding BJ Thompson, he had a big game and he had the QB nailed for the win. Penalty was unfortunate to say the least and came at the worst possible moment for us but that play was an all out effort to effectively win the game. Haven't seen anyone refer to that as a "dumb" penalty but would be quick to call them out on it if I did.

Schmid was in concussion protocol. I imagine he would have played if given the chance. And I find it preposterous for anybody to question his toughness after playing through getting absolutely hammered during last years playoff run, and especially the championship game. He's tough.

From the UCA game I'm guessing?

Or did he get one in practice?

Cartel as we all knew has the Jacks on the rise
Dline is legit good very impressive front
The game will remain at NRG or Bowers South as we call it. I believe the guarantee from Lone Star is very good for both
Run the table we will have the on campus game this year.

Good luck the rest of the season and maybe we will see you in the second round of the FCS playoffs

Thanks Kat1990 i was really impressed with your crowd.. Man they were loud and could bring the noise which I feel really helped the Kitty Kats get the momentum there at the end.. Your fans deserve kudos for the noise. Your WR are elite WR's and that showed big time because our secondary is really good and I wouldnt trade one of my DB's for anyone and they got beat a few times..Champs find ways to win and your team did that for sure.. I sure hope we can meet yall in the second round. I can guarantee we will work our tails off to get there.. Great atmosphere ;yesterday..

It The We DID NOT choke! If you had seen the game, you should remember that when the beercats drove down to our end of the field we had them at fourth and something. Maybe fourth and four AND WE STOPPED THEM. A facemask penalty negated that BUT THE POINT IS WE DID STOP THEM. When the face mask grab happened, we had the QB stopped and about to go down when a hard charging lineman inadvertently grabbed his facemask. It was an error BUT NOT BECAUSE WE CHOKED. If anything it was because we were going all out and karma kicked us in the gonads.

I didn't like the runs that were tried on the final drive. They accomplished very little, bordering on nothing. Ten more yards and I think we would have made the FG. We will never know.

We have a lot of Freshman and Sophomores playing against a lot of Seniors. Unlike in the past, this investment is going to pay off because Coach Carthel is the best coach we have in many years.

On the moving the game back to our campus. The field did not beat us. The beercats did. This is purely personal on my part, but if you live in Houston, you make a short 120 mile, 2 hour drive and you are there. If you live in Victoria, where I live, you are looking at a 240 mile, 4 hour journey. A little self serving for me, I guess, but are you going to get the NCAA to move the game from FRISCO, to Nacogdoches when we make it to the championship game. And yes, I did drive to Frisco and sat in the rain to watch the game that the beercats were lucky to make. And I did cheer for SD
Thanks for being on hand to witness 2 close Kat wins in the 5 games we have played
We might need to get you some more of our playoff games as a lucky charm!

Yes Ezzard play on the fade from our on 7 was the momentum changer
It's funny about the crowd with all the only show up to BOTPW fans there
When we had the ball we were having get them quiet for our offense

Hardcore fans of both SFA and SHSU like you guys here and our guys
I know that lack of football iq is frustrating
During the Spring with 50 percent we actually had knowledgeable crowds and really got loud while on defense and then quiet on offense

I would expect next year for SFA to come into the game as the favorite

I find it ironic that the beercats are boo hoo-ing about their QB having to miss the game Saturday. I guess they have forgotten that in their dubious Championship game last January, the South Dakota Jackrabbits lost THEIR QB in the first quarter. The beercat's QB played the whole game and were barely able to come away with a "decisive" (23 - 21) victory in the last16 seconds of the game. If the SD QB had been in the game in it's entirety, the beercats would have been crying in their beers on the long ride back home.

Don't get too cocky about me being a lucky charm for the beercats. Your luck is going to run out and I will be cheering your opponents on. I don't care who it is but "an enemy of my enemy, is my friend." I might just make the long drive up to see the Lumberjacks wipe the floor with the beercats in basketball. And you know that's true and that's probably the reason you don't go to the games.

Ah the old Basketball comeback that can always be expected on a football game thread
Just FYI I was in Nac last January for the hoops game but I discuss that on basketball threads
As far cheering other teams on that play us? jealousy is not pretty but I understand your frustration
Btw we did win with backup Qb just like SDSU could have done but didn't
Again please attend you seem to be our rabbits foot.

I hope the Jacks win out and make the playoffs

I went over to the basketball forum and read through the threads there - both men's and women's - but couldn't find any of your discussions. Were you lying to us? I didn't check the intramurals thread though. That's undoubtedly where you've been having discussions, since that's been the level of hoops play for Prison Tech for the last 20 years.

Discussed on Katfans
As to your snarky comment on our hoops program
While not up to SFA with the program we were a consistent Conf Title Contender in the Southland
We just find ways to spit the bit in the Conference Tournament see 2019 Number 1 seed fail
And if you go back and it is less than 20 years until Bob Marlin left our program was in great shape

Women's program is on the rise Coach Justice has us competing at a high level and will keep us there
See last years season

Meanwhile back to the season at hand basketball starts next month as one meme featuring Coach Keeler said.

I hadn't seen this until now.

Yes. UCA game from what I understand. I'm kinda hoping they keep him out v. Lamar.

You sound like someone who talks big BUT did you even go to the game Saturday and/or did you go to the game in Frisco. I'm betting you might have gone to one but not both. Show us the proof.

Sam Houston hate week is over. They're a good team. I don't think they're better than us but I think we're very even. Which is where we want to be. We want the rivalry to be strong. We want Sam to be good and we want to be good.
Let's just save it all up for our late November/early December matchup in either Huntsville or Nacogdoches with a national championship ticket on the line.
But Kat fans, y'all better bring your A-game to tailgate if it's in Huntsville, I want some good eats.

I am a season ticket holder there buddy
Lol I sat in the rain in Frisco I would have sat in a snowstorm to watch my Kats finally kick the door in
I talked to the Rev Sat at the Kat Daddy tailgate he knows me

I will be at Bowers North Saturday to watch us against Lamar
I will be at Stephenville and Abilene games both on the road
I drive many miles to support the Kats it was 3 hours 180 miles for me to Houston
It is going to be long drives to to West Texas for those other games

So question lots of things but anyone that knows me knows I am 100% in as SHSU alumni!

I promise you some good food and free drinks!
I agree on your statement
I am happy Carthel has the Jacks on the rise and making the game a true Battle of the Piney Woods
Like someone said on Twitter we are like Texas and OU we are attached at the hip and need both programs strong.

Btw did you see the Southland Communications director throw some shade at SFA on twitter?

Speaking of good eats, any place you recommend to grab a bite on Friday after the volleyball game? Honestly, couldn't find anything last time I went to a game on campus but not super familiar with Huntsville. We wound up eating in Spring.

Answering both questions

Pilot
I recommend couple of places
Humphreys is a dive looking place with small indoor but nice outdoor setup. The food is exceptional!
Many get surprised thinking it is all just bar food
The Farm House is also great traditional home cooking and the pie oh my!
If cajun is your thing then try Big E's great shrimp fish and crawfish
There are other options if those type of foods are not your thing
Hope that helps all 3 are close to Johnson Coliseum

Southland teams rightfully ranked but seeing a 3-2 team enter the rankings for a loss to team without its starting qb is interesting
