Read an AP article with the headline "Setback doesn't help Longhorns chances". DOESN'T HELP THEIR CHANCES??? What "chances" would/could/should a team that is 16-16 possibly have???????

big conferences have the advantage they can have most of their non-con games at home or on a neutral site to pad a resume and then they can have losing records in conference play and still get into the tournament. The quadrant system has helped the non-con scheduling some by pushing teams to schedule harder in the non-con or go to more neutral site games. But there will be teams in the tournament like Texas was last year that had a losing record in conference play and still be in the tournament. Texas lost last year to Nevada in the first round in OT.

Not sure if this is still a rule but in football but there was a rule that stated you had to win a certain # of games to be bowl eligible. I think there should be a rule like that to get in to the NCAA Tourney. Teams should have to win a minimum # of games in their conference. I understand that conferences like the ACC and Big12 have great basketball teams and if you have to play schools like North Carolina, Duke etc. a couple times in conference play your conference record is going to suffer but I would rather see a great mid-major that just happened to lose their conference tourney and didn't get the auto bid and now gets stuck with an NIT bid over the 8-9th best team in a big conference.

It doesn't matter if they played in any conference in the regular season. A team that is 16-16 SHOULD NEVER play in the NCAA's. As you said, that steals a spot from a team that won their regular season conference but not their conference tournament, and there are always 3-4 of those every year.

Agree, but the system is set up to always benefit the power conferences. Maryland is ranked #21 in the nation. They are 13-7 in conference play. Imagine losing more than a third of your conference games and people still think you are the 21st best team in the nation. Wofford is actually #20. They went 18-0 in the Southern.

There's more parity of late, but still .500 P5 teams are going to equate to .850 mid-majors.

Well, one of the things they should do is make play-in games be all at large teams.

You win your conference, you get into the field of 64. That definitely should be a rule.

If they really want him they could probably work something out to pay less than the buy out and make it happen. It could be a win win for all parties. Not sure Texas wants to pay $13M to to get Smart out so it looks like they will be keeping him another year unless someone comes along an makes them a deal.

Interesting fact... 54% of Villanova's shots this year were three-point attempts (1.023 of 1,912). Safe to say that Jay Wright likes the three.

Watching UT play South Dakota State in the NIT. Looks like about 10,000 UT fans are disguised as empty seats in the Drum.

They were all across I-35 watching Texas/Arkansas baseball

The mighty Texas Longhorns, who many felt were slighted by not making the Big Dance field, squeezes by the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 79-73 in a game that was closer than that at the end.

Really wanted Daum & Co to beat Shaka. Ahhh well fun to watch UT almost lose.

Ya. I think some of the changes in transfer rules have detrimental to all but a few marquee programs that basically become the "farm" system for the NBA. Maybe we'll be a winner on this in 2019:2020

Really? I thought Johnson was doing a decent job considering that 75% of the country doesn't even know that Bama has a basketball team.

Bryce Drew out at Vanderbilt after three seasons. 0-18 in conference can do that.

As long as Pearl has Auburn winning, Alabama will make sure they arent just a sideshow
