Biggest flop ever.

Now now. Maybe they got the inside scoop on some new and exciting transfer portal draft or something and were trying to tank to get the 1st overall pick.

Right? Right???

One thing is for sure - we won't have any trouble getting teams to schedule us. They will look at it as a win.

Well I guess in one good news Sam Houston is also 1-5 this year but the wild stat is they are 13th in 3PT %. I guess the three ball really doesn't save a team.

Keller or whoever will need to start from scratch. The shooting is so poor. Hard to believe it can be this bad.

Thats the hope. Whole new roster revive. Sad part is I guess we won't let him go until end of the year? I want to see the needle move now and get some fire in the young mens spirit.

It pains me greatly to read the criticisms of this edition of the Jacks, but I can't disagree with anything that's being said. I'll just leave it there.

It shouldn't pain you. All of us want success and want the best for our young men on and off the court. If its a leadership problem for these young men to follow then we should probably encourage more change to happen. Theres a reason why people have spoke highly of Carthel and the football program after he took over it. We need the same mentality with basketball. Someone that is successful but also a great leader.

I don't know if it's time for a change or not I'll let the powers that be decide that. It wasn't that long ago that some wanted Carthel's head on a platter. Hopefully he's worked through that. I want the basketball program and everyone associated with it to succeed. I think where Keller dropped the ball the last two years is recruiting. All our players are good D1 players and I hope all the eligible players are here next year But he failed to add a couple of guys that can take over a game in a crunch. Add a Kinsmil and a Cajuste to what we have now and it's a different story. IMHO

No one who has paid any attention to the last two years should he surprised at this.

The timing, maybe? But not the decision.

McBroom comes from a wildly successful athletic program and whatever expectations of MBB he had were clearly not being met.

I'd suspect current WTAMU head coach Tom Brown to be the front runner.

I do find it hilarious that the firing announcement still did that stupid #PressU hashtag

Looking at the standings we're only 3 games out of 8th place, which would get us in.

My guess is no. Jasick wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire at Jacksonville.

Honestly I get Jasick was AHC, but I'd rather have given Dallas a shot.

I honestly thought that his chance to really advance was crushed by the covid season. If they had played it out, his success would have made him attractive. Tough luck to miss that opportunity, it shows how you may never get another opportunity and then wallow in mediocrity until this is your fate.

I'm honestly shocked they made a move midseason.

I mean it was that bad, but sucks for his family.

I was one of those people but after hearing one of the former players describe Carthel as a leader of the team and bringing young men into men. Kind of changed my heart on all of that.

As for Keller Im surprised we did actually make the move mid season. I wish we did give it Dallas. Guy probably would have helped the team but makes sense to go the route of the AHC.

As for the next new era of SFA Men's basketball I do hope we go away with PressU and give a new spin. Hoping for Tom Brown and his success to lead SFA to the promise land.

The only real surprise was that SFA made the move in season. Last season was a weak performance and then 6 or 7 guys entered the portal. This season has been a disaster for the standards of SFA MBB that we expect to see. At this point it sure appears to be the right call.
While I'm sure there is more to it than just the poor record this season---the die has been cast. It's time to move on, play out the season and prepare for a new staff. We have this great facility that should draw a lot of good talent here for those willing to play at a mid-major. Administration now needs to focus on making a good hire and not lock themselves into a contract with a huge buyout. Focus on a coach that is hungry and looking to be successful at this level. We know if they accomplish good things here they won't be here forever but right now MBB needs a kickstart to regain any level of respectability and being respected by others.

I too am completely shocked. This move restores my faith in our program though. I truly wish Coach Keller well, seems like a good guy, just was not working out here.

Now that Coach K's been let go, I'll say my piece. Sure, no one on the team can shoot worth a d**n, but IMO an even bigger problem (if that's possible) has been the total lack of an inside game, offensively and defensively. Our bigs are all soft, lack any aggression, and have bricks for hands (one guy in particular, who shall remain nameless). That's where SFA needs to begin the recruiting process in the portal, and do it early before the best bigs are long gone, which is what happened in the last recruiting period. We need some bangers inside.

More of my thoughts later...

BTW, Keller's response statement about the termination showed a lot of class. Kudos to him for that, and good luck to him and his family. They've been great citizens of the community.

Cox was 224-68 as an HC, mostly JUCO. Can coach the hell out of some Bigs. He was on my short list for sure.

Brown is 266-62. Also think he's secretly Michael McBroom's twin brother.

Would also love to see SFA look at Mike Boynton and Desmond Haymon.

I realize Dez doesn't have the HC experience, but he's coached on some damn good teams, will connect well with the young guys in this new era of basketball. And you could probably get him in a sweetheart deal at like 200-250k that allocates a little more for assistant salaries and the rest of the savings to NIL.

Question. Does transitioning from a D11 to D1, is there an adjustment to recruiting higher level players?
