I know he has loyalty to Brad, but Kansas and Tech are the moves. Miami is going to be BAAAD next year and Oregon plays in a really bad league with little to no visibility
Ya, if he gets the opportunity, Kansas & Tech are going to set him up.

And if he's ever interested in coaching, that's the right moves as well.

Was hoping for Texas, so I could selfishly keep cheering for him on one of my teams, but I'll pull for him wherever he goes, minus one school that didn't make this list. And even there, I'd pull for him to have triple-double games every night while his team had a losing effort.

I agree. Miami is a nice, all expenses paid trip. Illinois is comfortable because of Underwood. Oregon; probably he has been in contact with Ehab Amin, the A&M-CC grad transfer. It worked out good for him after Nevada dumped him.

Kansas is a blue blood basketball school. Tech is a hot item with a hot coach, and is closer to Albuquerque.

Guy on Redditt asked me what happened to Holyfield & in looking back at his junior year, I don't think we talk enough about how ridiculous that 3rd team all-conference selection was.

Loved this quote from Keller on TJ:

Quote:

"He is a caring, loving young man," Keller said of Holyfield last season as reported by KTRE.com. "To me he is on the Mount Rushmore of SFA Basketball. I am happy to see how his life unfolds. He is graduating with a business degree. He will be a great father and is a great teammate and son. I would love for my son to emulate him one day."

Watching Tech play baseball, and announcers are talking about TJ being in Lubbock today on his official.

Good summary of where TJ is looking to go and why.

Not a surprise.

Kinda want him to pick Tech.

I kinda don't have a preference. He is no longer a Lumberjack once he signs.

TJ Holyfield will always be a Lumberjack. And, will have the diploma to prove it.

I want the best for TJ. Tech might be closer to his home. T.J. will always be a Lumberjack. Glad he chose SFA Thanks for the memories!!!

So, when he plays for another team will he be playing for the Lumberjacks? I think not. He chose to leave us and to play for someone else. So be it. He was once a Lumberjack but he is no more. If he was still a Lumberjack he would be trying to help us. Don't forget that he got a full year of free school last year as well. He got four years of scholarship for three years of playing.

Having said that, I don't wish him harm but I don't care what school he plays for.

He is graduating, so he will forever be a Lumberjack, like us on this forum & other alumni. Many people leave to pursue grad studies elsewhere. Yes, he played 3 years but those were a great 3 years. Players have the right to get a medical redshirt & transfer. TJ is a very smart, articulate young man. He will do well with his studies & continued basketball career.

I'd say Kansas. As high level as you can get out of his options & I've already resigned myself to UT losing to Kansas, so might as well cheer for TJ while they beat UT.

If he signs with Illinois, we better get the front end of a home & home out of it so we can see him & Underwood in Nac.

No matter where he ends up, I think he will contribute.

(Cause I'm a nerd) I looked back on some of his performances against P5 Teams:

Points/Rebounds

Mississippi State - 19/8
LSU - 9/2
Mizzou - 18/7
Texas Tech - 10/4

Kentucky - 5/1 (Only 9 Minutes)
Arkansas 7/9

Baylor - 12/5
Arizona State - 9/1
WVU - 4/1 (9 Minutes)
Notre Dame 15/5

The point being, I think he could be a decent 10/5 Type of guy at a P5 conference. I will be curious where he lands and what is role ends up being.

And for his junior season, that was P5 teams who knew they had to deal with him.

He'll have to fight for a spot, but he has the talent to be a solid contributor.

Regardless of the right. SFA paid for the last scholarship season. I am a tax payer. I believe that when a school signs a player coming off of a redshirt season that that school should have to pay for the scholarship and have to give up a scholarship the next year, or otherwise that player should have to go back and repay the school for that scholarship year. He got a redshirt scholarship year so he could go play somewhere else. Not fair.

This is nonsense

How long do you want to ignore this user?
In your opinion, but what I said is true. If he was going to transfer then we shouldn't have had to pay for his free year of school. We paid for a year of his school and then he leaves to play somewhere else. How can that be fair?
Explain to me why that's nonsense.

Not everything needs to be a debate. let it go
purplitis72
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't see it as a debate. I see it that he is no longer a Lumberjack because he thinks that he is too good to play for us.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Me too.. He will be close to home... He can have friends and family make the games in Lubbock... Nacogdoches was alot farther to get to for them..
purplitis72
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with you 4460, Nonsense doesn't describe it. What do you want the SFA mens basketball program to be known for? Do you want to be known as a basketball school that grooms players to play at other D1 schools like a junior college? I want us to be basketball program that can beat those larger schools. Therefore I don't care where TJ goes and whether he wins or loses or not. I'm a Lumberjack and he is no longer a Lumberjack. Now that is my final say on this subject. TJ is history!

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I recall saying what I said was true. I didn't say that was my opinion was true. My opinion is something different. I hate the transfer rule. I don't think it is fair for a player to sit out a year on scholarship at one school and still be eligible to transfer and play at another school. Now you have my opinion PurpleOut. We were the victim. I'm not negative when we win dsfw57 and in this case we lost. And yes Tall Texan, I am still a Lumberjack and once he transfers he is not. Gigglesnort all you want Tall Texan while I LMAO at you. I for darn sure want snort. I hope that none of you are snorting, if you know what I mean.

It's nonsense because you're holding him to a higher standard than other students who have received money from taxpayers because he plays basketball. If TJ where a math student on a full ride who then went to MIT, Harvard, Etc... for post grad that wouldn't be ok? Just don't get why he's "no longer a lumberjack" when he graduated and wants to pursue other opportunities. It's nonsense. Still your opinion but it's nonsensical.

And, because we failed to make the conference tournament this past season. OK Pilot girl, let's move on. Maybe after T.J. makes his decision this thread will soon end and we can talk about basketball.

Wouldn't he get more playing time with Tech?
purplitis72
How long do you want to ignore this user?
At least Tall Texan has a legitimate reason for where he doesn't want him to go. Remember Pilot Girl. Tech made it to the final four last season while all of the others did not. If playing time is what he is concerned about, he would be better off here. I know that I'm going to get attacked for this but personally, I think that he is just a little bit overrated. He may spend most of his time on the bench if he doesn't cut down on his negative plays. He had lots of them (turnovers) and when he narcissitically attempted that 360 dunk that he missed close to the end of a very close game, he gave me pause about his attitude. He was also consistently in foul trouble.
