ULL cancelled, so no Friday match. Our games Thursday and Saturday as scheduled.

"LAFAYETTE Louisiana Volleyball has withdrawn from this weekend's SFA Tournament due to COVID-19 contract tracing within the program. The matches will not be made up.

Per the Sun Belt Conference's 2021 COVID-19 policy, the non-conference matches will be declared a no-contest."

Yeah that's a bummer. Going to see if my Friday tickets can be transferred to Saturday.

Good match. NAU was a good serving team, and strong up front. It looked like they got gassed in set four, and we played our best. Decent crowd, although almost all of the students had left well before it was over. No Purple Haze.

Debbie Humphreys with career win #750. We are fortunate to have her at SFA for this long. Class individual, quality coach, and still very driven to succeed.

Not used to playing at only 300 feet elevation rather than 7,000 feet, perhaps?

Wow. We are very fortunate. Exceptional

Corpus over NAU 3-1 yesterday. The player that led NAU in kills against us with 15, did not play.

We always struggle with Corpus, and they return key players from last season, including the SLC libero and the setter of the year.. Should be a good one.

Ladyjacks up 2-1. Three really tight sets.

I would rather support this team than tailgate any time.

Well. I agree with you sort of. Definitely going to do some tailgating this year.

I'm not opposed to tailgating at al. I choose to support our student athletes, coaches, and staff as a preference.

The first SFA tournament is done. We lost the scheduled Friday match when ULL cancelled due to Covid.

Next is at the Tulsa tournament. We play Tulsa and Arkansas on Friday, and Oral Roberts on Saturday. Tulsa is 2-1, with their loss being to Sam by 3-2. Arkansas is 5-1, with their only loss being by 3-2 to Little Rock. ORU is 6-0. None of the three has played against high level competition, but those are still very good records. (Sam is 6-1, with five of the wins and the one loss being five set matches.)

Next home matches are SFA tournament #2, against Grambling, HBU, and ULM. First two matches on Friday, September 17. ULM is on Saturday, September 18.

Gotcha. I was thinking there were Sunday games for some reason.

Random comments.

Kodi Garcia, grad transfer setter, is really, really good. She did not play the first three matches due to a non-Covid illness. Her setting is top notch, and she may be the best sever on the team. High volleyball IQ. Very calm. Rarely made a mistake in the two home matches.

Freshman libero, Alyssa Ortega, got schooled by Corpus after having an outstanding match against NAU. Part of the process. She's going to be good.

Sophomore DS, Bryli Contreras, is playing much better than she did as a freshman. This weekend, six service aces with no service errors. Led the team in digs against Corpus with 12.

Sophomore MB Ashley Precious has been out all season with an elbow issue. She dressed and warmed up for the last two matches. Could have played, but need to make sure she is fully healed. Probable starter if she had not been hurt.

This team is still young. Taya Mitchell, who is using her Covid fifth year, and Garcia are the only two contributing senior players.

Having starting MB Ashley Procious back playing is big for us. Apparently her elbow s ok. This should be a quality match.

Down 12-6 early. Spacing looks terrible. Leaving gaps that they are exploiting.

Ladyjacks three losses this season, and the opponents record:

  • North Carolina - 10-0
  • SMU - 3-6
  • Arkansas - 8-2

The NC and SMU losses were without starters MB Ashley Procious, and setter Kodi Garcia. Grad transfer Garcia has been a huge addition to the team.
