Molly Gerwig. Assistant Volleyball Coach at HBU, passed away today at the young age of 27. Cause of death was not stated.

Not surprised. The SLC representative lost to a solid Texas Southern squad in the playin game.
When we joined the SLC in 1987 it was a mid tier conference. Lamar had been to the Sweet 16 a few years earlier. Louisiana Tech was solid. Now, not much. Not much at all.

Southland Conference has hired a firm to help them pick a new name. Not a bad idea tbh.
In summary, the Southland’s in a much better place. They don’t have to do anything, which is so nice because it allows you to play the long game with some of these possibilities.

If the SLC could "delete" HBU, UIW and UNO they would have a facsimile of a decent midmajor conference. Still, not much on the MBB front.

Ran the numbers today.
From 2021-2022 results, for this year's lineup, WAC will have an efficiency margin of 0.22, meaning that WAC teams are likely to come out on top by 0.2 points when facing an average opponent in any given game. Post NMSU/Sam leaving, that'll drop to -0.9. A slight decrease but still around the 12-14th best conference. Adding UIW/keeping Lamar would have had us at a -2+.
Southland is a -11 without those two, -12.5 with both of them. Meaning that the average Southland team will lose to the average D1 team by double digits, roughly speaking.
The WAC is so much better and poised for the future.

Kinne and his young staff, who have done a pretty good job in the transfer portal, with senior QB Lindsey Scott from Nichols, 4-star DE Kansas transfer Steven Parker, and 3-star recruit CB Zamari Maxwell out of UCF as well as DE Willburn Smallwood from SFA.
