As bad as this season has been, the Jacks are still in a position to make a move, if they get hot.
SFA is currently a game out of 3rd place behind ACU, in the Southwest Division with series coming up against the 1st and 2nd place teams Sam Houston and Lamar.
The Jacks get three straight non-conference games to get some more rhythm going on rotation and then boom welcome in Lamar, Abilene Christian, and prison tech all in a row, just waiting to get knocked down a peg or two.
Just make the WAC Tourney, where anything can happen!

Realistically, what is the best pitching staff a school like ours can assemble on a year in year out basis?
With new facilities you could expect a pitching staff equall to the university of Houston.

Ya but that's probably a 10+ million dollar investment.
Just remember if you build it they will come. It is a investment that is inevitable. If not the school is in trouble. UT Tyler is robbing players from The Jacks and they are D2 They boast having the nicest facilities in the North East Texas area. 10 million is actually a cheap investment.

There are plenty of D1 and even MLB caliber players in the lowly levels of 2-3A baseball, some even in the 1a level who will never get looks because of how small their schools are. D2 and D3 programs swoop in and snatch star talents from that level all the time.

But man, with all our other needs in the athletic dept, it'd be hard for me to greenlight a project that big if I was the decision maker. Maybe we get a donor who really likes baseball. Not sure who that'd be.
Between baseball and softball, you'd be looking at quite a large project. And that's without even getting into the idea that the P5s are probably going to want baseball/softball to be a headcount sport in the future. They might break off completely, lessening even further the potential for marketing exposure from baseball.
I think if there's a future large baseball project on the horizon, it'd probably be smart to look at which sports could use a shared facility and find land close to campus or more central to campus to do it.
Something like a baseball/softball/soccer/track complex that has a shared indoor training/locker room facility. Don't have to build it all at once, but over the course of a master plan.
This game vs Grambling has been delayed twice because batters and home ump can't see the ball because of the city league softball field lights. Crazy

The Jacks 6-0 victory came against the Lamar ace Adam Wheaton, who was 6-1 going into this one where he gave up the most runs this season in his 10th outing.
SFA pitcher Emmons III (3-0) on the other hand gave the bullpen a nice rest, with a 5 hit complete game, striking out 3 and walking only 1 with the defense doing the rest.
Looking for the series win today at 2:00.

Yea the flood gates have opened, the wheels are off, etc.
Embarrassing. Tied as the worst team in the WAC playing at a church league softball field. I know baseball is not America's Pasttime as it once was but good grief. Maybe they should move down to DII in baseball and rejoin the Lone Star Conferences so they can recruit against SOME of the DII programs.
Maybe Tarleton State can join us.

Although the Tarleton field looks good, their baseball stadium seats 750 on a bunch of bleachers and doesn't look much better than Jaycee stadium but at least they have the excuse they just moved to DI in 2020. Let's give them a few decades and see if they keep their DII baseball facilities like SFA has.
