I bet on name recognition. I bet most coaches don't even realize SFA is back in the SLC or even at the quality of play they are at.

So McNeese's coach voted for himself.

18 voters in a 12 team conference, so some assistants must have voted, too. Seems like a very unscientific form of voting.

Location. You have an airport of quality near as well as rivals that have long records of playing each other. SFA gets short changed by almost every P4 college in the state. UH played us in football last year because Fritz came up through the backwoods of NCAA coaching. Underwood won't even throw us a bone.

I believe our game against UH was scheduled before Fritz was there.

Underwood, like a lot of high majors, won't schedule us because there just isn't much value to. There are a ton of mid majors out there. I'm sure Underwood knows a game against them would be valuable for SFA but for him and his team not as much.

Yes they schedule Mid Majors but I'm sure if he can avoid it, he won't be playing the Lumberjacks outside of the Tournament.

And yet Underwood scheduled UTRGV!

Also keep in mind SFA fired their coach last year. lol

Well, Keller's assistant job so far is on a 4-game losing streak, haha. I feel like Keller's coaching mentality was just finally figured out, and he didn't have any other strategy to implement. It was only PRESS. I felt like it was earlier, when we had shooters, but then Keller took a way-too-hard press mentality and found no one who could actually shoot the ball.

Maybe we had a little identity with Kensmil, just driving on the inside and letting someone foul him and make the automatic 2- or 3-point play. But that wasn't sustainability after he left.

I wish Keller the best. He did a lot for SFA. Had some big wins and some good teams. Hope he fairs well. But I believe both he and the administration knew it was time for a change.

It seems to also be lost in the Brad Underwood glamour that he took over a SFA team that was 27-5 the year before his arrival? So there was nothing to rebuild as in the case of Coach Braeuer! Just throwing out the facts...

This is something that people seem to forget. Not only did he not need to rebuild, but during his entire tenure Walkup, Parker, Floyd, Pikney. Most of his key contributors were Kasper's guys. A lot of Brad's actual recruits didn't make huge impacts for the Jacks outside of a couple of big names.

The point being we have no idea how good a Brad Underwood coached team would've done once all of Kasper's players were gone and the team was fully his. He very well could've recruited well enough to keep the success going, but I kind of expect that we were due to for a drop off the year left.
