Can't count on a Bearkat for anything! I actually dislike Lamar wayyy more than Sam.

Still the only 18-0 SLC teams belong to us...well technically 20-0 through conference play.

Sheesh! Already complaining/writing off NEXT season...mmmm ok. At least the majority of SFA fans are supportive, so GO JACKS AND LADYJACKS!!!

You can be supportive of your school and questioning of the direction/coaching it looks to have. Those things aren't mutually exclusive and we need to stop acting like they are.

I'm not going to quote the other posts but I have my concerns. We are a team ripe with talent and can't put **** together. We have a seven footer who can't rebound, and we depend on two guys to carry us. We lose one of those guys at the end of this season. Yes, injuries have hurt but we knew of those injuries in November and it's ****ing February. Adjustments SHOULD have been made by now.

I don't think Keller is a good coach. I think he's mediocre. Flame away at me all you want but there's nothing showing otherwise right now.

Keller is a fine coach and its really hard to coach a team with no point guards. Has anyone played basketball on this chain? Bogues is not a distributing guard he is a shooting guard. Who are your distribution guards? Comeaux is what he is a ok minute cruncher who wont kill the flow but is not and should not be confused with a Jarrett Culver or Kevin Porter Jr who can light up and lift. Jock Hughes has been injured and I cant speak to his distribution skills but in high school dude was a light it up 3 point specialist. Oddyst Walker...maybe...dude tries hard but I haven't seen enough of him to really know whats there. I am seeing a team who basically has become way too dependent on 2 people and the others just pander to that offensive scheme and don't have any confidence in their offensive game. At this point just let Harris and Bogues sit together for a few minutes a game and see who is capable of stepping up.

Defense seems to be man most of the time and the problems come when players leave their man to help out and the other team sees this and passes to a wide open player for an easy shot. Defense is sloppy for sure and I think it might also be players don't feel engaged as they don't get many offensive touches and if you have played you know that your juice gets flowing when you offensive gets flowing. I think the team is bored honestly.

We have two nice athletes coming in who graded really high but both are forwards Hart and Pope so there better be a plan of action to either find a grad transfer guard looking to make an impact or a JUCO dude who can distribute as well as he can shoot. Holyfield isn't coming back...I cant say that 100% but if he was I would think he would have said something by now. What is all this talk of Mitch Seraille transferring. Why would he transfer. Is he going to suddenly going to get high P5 scholarship offers or find a better situation than the one he will see next year starting and having significant more focus on his game? I don't think so. As with TJ...I don't have any info from anyone other than my gut.

Its a bad year....bad team players cleared out....bad injuries screwed up momentum and bad luck was also evident with teams we play going off in ways that don't normally do. It happens man and it stinks but we are SF freaking A and we are going to make these teams who beat us this year have burn marks on the ass-es when we are done with our come back tour next season. Go Jacks!

You know, we do a decent amount of help defense. But now that you mention it, one guy screwing up probably leads to fewer open 3s than trying to rescue a guy who got beat for a 2 and leaving the perimeter wide open.

Question all you want. I don't care. I'm just saying it's not cool to write off next season when this one isn't even over. That's ridiculous bullsh**.

It's a bad year. Yup. Due to many variables. Being supportive means you still show up as a fan, which is part of maintaining a good program. And not just criticize. I get that it's everyone's right to do that in a forum. And this is just a general statement, not to anyone in particular. But if people criticize all the time and make erroneous statements, then others can certainly call them out or make posts that are more opptimistic.

But...don't tell me how to act. Ive questioned many things about Keller...haven't posted it here, some I have or agreed with others.

Remaining schedule:
Corpus(home)
UIW(home)
Central Arkansas
Lamar
ACU
SHSU(HOME)

The next two are definitely winnable, especially with a home crowd. If we can play like a team like we did in the first half yesterday, but carry it for a full game, we can win most SLC games.

But let's go get that one on Wednesday.
TallTexan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Also, who the heck made a schedule where we go from Central Ark, to Lamar to ACU in 8 days?

2nd time we've crisscrossed the conference completely this season for at least back to back games. It's funny, we use the Southland Strong hashtag, but the conference isn't good at scheduling, isn't good at expansion, isn't good at hiring refs, and isn't good at responding to any legitimate complaint brought before them. #AmateurHourConference

Migata33, agree completely.

The single biggest criticism I have of the current staff is the void in high quality PG recruiting. We have done a nice job recruiting shooting guards and athletic forwards. I repeat for the umpteenth time, PG is the most important position on the team. Put a Trey Pinkney or Marcus Clark on this team, and we are having different results.

I think everything is fair. I again just ask that we not speculate TOO much. I've heard a few things that shouldn't be repeated on a public forum, but criticism is perfectly fine. And agree that it's too early to know about next season. Even if several of the things that we've heard are true and more bad stuff happens, we don't know who we'll bring in. We don't know what changes will happen.

The lack of adjustments is definitely fair and my biggest criticism of the season. How many times do simple scripted plays work to perfection against us? Yesterday in the first half when we let a team yet again run an inbound play under their basket, leaving the inbound person to walk 3 feet for a WIDE open three...I lost it. I lost it.

The fact that we are on this forum speaks to the dedication and fanaticism of the a small but vocal part of the Lumberjack fan base. 12 other Southland schools would love to have the fan base we have here.

Regarding specific criticism and speculation; I agree there are comments that may be on the cusp of "inside information" that should not be on the public forum. I haven't seen anything that would qualify but I could be wrong. I don't have any inside information so my comments are entirely based on what I see and hear antidotally.

Let's win 3 or more to close out the season.

Once again Migata I find your analysis of the season to be spot on....we have had a number of issues this year to be sure but the lack of a true point guard is our biggest on court issue....you can not win with any consistency with a makeshift PG. Bogues is great but not a PG and playing out of his position sometimes handcuffs his game as well.
TJ, defections, "can Keller coach", rumors of the fall of the empire have also plagued us this season but put a Pinkney or Clark at the point and we would be right at the top of things even with the other problems.

The off season is drawing close so fairly soon we will see what transpires with players and coaches, what speculation comes to pass (or not), who gets recruited (Juco or freshman) etc...but I do know that come next November we will all be here to support the Jacks in the new season. We may not all support in the same "style" as the next forum member but I know we all want SFA to succeed athletically and as a University.
Different paths, different ideas, different means to the ends, same goal....GO JACKS.

Does that mean we get to pop the cork like the undefeated Miami Dolphins team when that final undefeated chance goes under? I like that tradition.

Yep, that was a perfect example of no confidence, but it only takes one to get that confidence back. I'm hoping that was the one. I never underestimate the mental aspect of coming back once you've been injured. It's why sports psychology is a vocation.

I keep hearing as a negative that we may to have to rely on a Juco transfer. Well, I believe Canete and Gilmore were Juco transfers, to name a few, it's just part of the game now and Keller (or Mason) has proved he can get that player. My glasses may be too purple, but his year does not feel like the downturn of the program. There are a multitude of reasons (not excuses) for this year.

I would probably prefer a JUCO Pg at this point. We don't have time to mold another freshmen pg. our last 2 are not even here rn. We need good proven JUCO players . 90 percent of the hs pg's we can recruit will not be ready for cbb.Juco has done us well. Outside of Harris they have been our best recruits in the last 3 years.

I agree with some previous assessments that Comeaux is more of a minute chewer and shouldn't be our starting point guard if we want to be in the mix next year. We also have to get Kevon, Bain and Mitch all back at 100%. With a PG we could have a strong starting 5. Does Mitch return? I think yes.

The trajectory of the program is clearly in question. In the regular season we are T4th, T3rd and probably 7th under Keller. That's not a trend line that anyone likes. Next year if we finish middle of the pack I think the cake will be baked.

Went back and unscientifically pulled, according to the Southland, the final regular season finish for the Jacks - not the tourney seed. (Parenthesis are how we would have finished sans divisions based on record) We won't really know if this year is an anomaly or not until next year I think it is. But I think we won't see the dominance of 2013-2016 for a while that was extremely special. Again, I think our demise based on this year is greatly exaggerated, but we should expect (barring the problems that hit us this year) to be in the top 3 every year IMHO.

You are right... Nevada loaded up and had to cut that good player from A&M COrpus Christi..We are gonna have to get at the minimum 8 new players for next year.. Number could be closer to 10.. We will have to see how this season ends... I hope I am wrong..

By roster we should have: TJ, Kevon, Nate, Samuli, John, Mitchell, Jock, and Oddyst back. That leaves 5 open scholarships.

You're insinuating that we're losing three to five of these players? I'm not saying you are wrong, but that's a lot of paid college degrees to give up.

My guess is that we lose 2. I hope one of them is not Mitchell. If Mitch comes back we are probably a contender. You've got the best 3 and 4 in league,,, probably. Nate is a good 2/3 off the bench. I think Oddyst is our 2 going forward unless he crashes and burns. I don't see that. He looks to be the same type of guy as Walkup in terms of matchup issues.

If we get a really solid point guard out of the Juco ranks we might be alright.
