So, those that follow FCS football more closely all around---Do the powerhouses like North Dakota St, South Dakota St, Montana etc go through coaches like SFA does or do they somehow manage to hold on to their important staff due to better pay or maybe being the hierarchy of FCS football? Our coaches are constantly picked away by mostly FBS schools so more money and a so called higher level of football. This slows down SFA's attempts to build and become the stronger FCS presence we all want to see. But the perineal top 4 or 5 never seem to lose a step.
Yes. The FCS powers also go through coaches relatively quickly, but the big time FCS programs know how to deal with it really well.
Basically, the way a lot of the "big dogs", specifically Big Sky and MVFC programs are run is very similar to how you'd see a lot of P5 programs are run. They're very fast when it comes to replacing coaches, which helps with roster retention/getting a head start on recruiting and having replacements in the wings for those players they lose.
They also make much bigger financial commitments in their coaching staffs than we do, meaning coaches are less likely to leave for anything less than a great opportunity.
They can afford to make these commitments not because they're so much better off than SFA but because to the region they're in, they are the flagship football programs.
Montana and the Dakotas have no FBS programs really near them. Even the programs with FBS Programs nearby don't have many. They have massive fan bases who actively choose to support the programs even without direct affiliation with the schools. They're getting financial support from people with no connection to the university.
SFA fans are either Nac natives or have some connection to the university, so it's harder.
