I was not impressed by neither UIW nor Calzada. This would have been a W for SFA "if only"....

They will keep Carthel. This is SFA, not Texas A&M. They won't eat the remaining year of his contract, plus it is difficult to fire a coach when you lose a very good quarterback. I'm no fan, but he's coming back and I'll wish him and the kids success.SFASawmillGuy said:SFA Jack Fanatic said:

Our defense is for real. If we hold onto Carthel and Mutz, we hold onto that defense, as well as get Vidlak back.
I know everyone hates "next year" talk because we do that every year, but screw it, next year we will be good.

Celebrating on our own field.
I was expecting a loss, but hey, we played the game closer than I thought. It would have been better if Vidlak had been there. I don't think IWU is as strong as its rank says unless it plays a weak, defense-minded team.nacluth said:
Definitely not upset with them. They deserved it. A dude right next to me had to be escorted away because he was about to get into a fight with their players. But I'll be happier when it's us.

Don't worry. The anti Carthel crowd will show up at game's end and tell you.

Master---You are not the crowd I was referring to, he showed of course, 1 or 2 others haven't yet.
I enjoy your commentary, "almost" all the time. You take the time to give discussion and evidence to back your thoughts. Sometimes with the comic relief which is welcome. Heck we even agree sometimes.
You are correct about Carthel's record. Next year is last year of contract. I would expect he Must produce next year, time for excuses is used up. I certainly hope he does. If next year is a repeat of this year then I would expect change.

If I was going to make the case for Carthel through next year, it would be on this:
1. Everyone agrees he's a good dude and a good spokesperson for the university. His family is even bought in to Nacogdoches itself, owning a business here.
2. While breaking in a new OC, the offensive stats are much improved over last season. Defensive stats are also greatly improved. Obviously you'd want to see more wins, but Carthel made changes and we're more competitive.
3. You get a lot back next year. Vidlak, two coordinators, another year of recruiting.
4. The buyout could be better used on other imminent needs.
That's a foundation you can build on going into a contract year.

At this point what are our options? Idk.

Why are we still building a foundation 5-6 years in? Should have already been built and established by now. Other schools have passed us by a mile during that time.

I don't think you have to make any case, I think we're all pretty sure he's back.
Your first point, while nice…is irrelevant to winning football games.
The rest, I agree with. Just pray to baby infant Jesus that Sam stays healthy and that our coaches learn some game/clock management.
SFA has undoubtedly improved a ton this year. They nearly took down UIW with a backup QB. While it's taken longer than some expected, it's important to remember this was a complete and total rebuild after Colby Carthel inherited a gigantic mess in 2019, followed by a COVID season https://t.co/3T3GrWlIJI
