AND THAT IS ON CARTHEL..Could have gone to the half with a lead but a foolish gamble cost us that lead.
I don't hate the 4th down call. It was the right call and should've been caught , but yes it was a huge gamble and did not pay off for us.
Have to disagree with you. I believe punting and pinning them deep would have been the right call. Just as I believe letting Campos have a FG try earlier on a fourth down would have been the smarter call. North Texas has to feel like they've taken back the game. A gift.SFASawmillGuy said:

Completely disagree. Terrible call that ruined our momentum and destroyed most of the good we did in 1st half .
Even their announcers said UNT had their heads down as if they were 2 or 3 TDs down because they weren't waxing us.
Yes he should have caught the ball but that play should not have been called.
Huge difference if we still held the lead at the half. If UNT comes out and smokes us in the 3rd quarter if will be a direct result of that idiotic move.

Vidlak could be better than advertised. Qu Ilan Jones is a beast. The ball needs to be handed to him.

On a different note, UNT's ESPN+ has excellent camera work and mostly good replays. Announcers suck but the homer stuff is to be expected. Audio and video beat the heck out of SFA's version.

That 4th down call was a slap in the face to a defense that has kept you in this game while the offense found their footing (somewhat). That was a disrespectful play call, plain and simple. I love Coach Carthel, but there is no defending that call.

Yeah, I understand we need to pull all the stops to beat an FBS opponent, but realistically we're winning this game by 2 scores right now if we don't go for it.

I have supported Carthel since he got here but he does have a bad tendency to go for it on 4th downs--several times forgoing the FG. He has cost us in the past with those decisions.
I'm a "points on the board guy" We have a kicker that can nail them. The 2nd quarter we missed a chance to add the 3. I don't understand not taking the points. Sure a FG can be missed but a failed 4th down gets you nothing but a momentum drain.

OK, they're staying in it. Now defense needs to hold serve, which they've shown they can. Keep it close doing into the 4th.

Appears we still have trouble with play calling deep in the red zone.
Shouldn't we throw a running play in there sometimes?

We actually have under center formations with Carthel. Or we did in Coach Storm's offense, and used them a few times in short yardage situations. But yeah, we rarely ever do, which I hate.
