sfajack05. I 100% agree! I was told this week that SFA spends more on Football than any other school in the Southland Conference and more than the majority of FCS schools, yet we have less than marginal results each year. Hopefully, Ivey will change things quickly because I am getting tired of this year after year.

Let's move 50% of that money to hoops, and 40% to everyone else.

I do think on campus makes sense but I've been told we make some.... $$$$ on this piece of $h1t. Just absolutely humiliating. Hiring Conque was a joke.

I'd like to see the numbers for on campus vs Reliant, figured it was a money loser though.

BigJack85, I say definately cut Reliant and come back to campus with the game. We have to be losing money with such dismal attendance!! I would like to see the numbers.
As far as cutting football goes, if we are going to continue to hire mediocre coaches who bring in mediocre results then cut it! We dont need anymore coaches with previous Title IX issues either! In the South, everyone talks Football, and success in Football is a huge positive PR tool for a University. SH is reaping the benefits! Basketball, not so much!

Problem with cutting football is that it brings in a lot of money for the university and athletic department.

We just need a head coach who can build a program, recruit (especially in East Texas), and hire a good coaching staff.

We've had all this talent or at least that's what people say but we are not seeing the outcome on the field. So either the talent is not what people are saying or our coaching staff doesn't know how to utilize it or both.

'89 game was a blast to watch, as Hammels, Centers & Co. dismantled SHSU. Highlight of the game? The "Boise Walk-away" play...anyone else remember that?

Randy Bass I believe we are locked into Reliant for the next few years. The game is only a sham because we haven't had solid leadership in football in a while.

I live in Houston... but most SFA alumni are spread between Houston Dallas Austin San Antonio and East Texas. 85% of Sam alums are within 75 miles of Houston. Even when we have a better squad the odds are in there favor to put more folks in stands by virtue of. Locality.

Not fully saying that, because I don't think it's possible. Right now at least. Just saying we should spend the majority of those funds in different areas. Specifically a known and winning hoops program that gets us national recognition every year. Especially if we can't get our students to pass the athletic fee, there are other sports that need the money. Tired of seeing this football product.

Here's some RED meat for you Sawmillers.... If we really want to be successful in football we need to realign the men's side of the athletic department. I would kill off baseball and add men's tennis. We would immediately move closer to Title IX compliance (which I believe is all crap anyhow). A few factors that make this move make sense.

1. Tennis is far cheaper in scholarships than baseball, allowing additional emphasis on the BIG 2 , MBB and FB.
2. We already have great facilities for tennis. No additional expense from a facilities standpoint.
3. Again, it allow's us to focus on the sports we have historically been competitive in.

Man I really feel for y'all. I really hope y'all can get the coach from Austin Peay. I remember the old days when the battle of the piney Woods was a really great game. But since 2012 it's been pretty dead rivalry. Maybe y'all could pull in the coach from Texas A&M Commerce. He has done some great things there and has Texas connections. That's what I was afraid of when Sam got Keeler. But it didn't take him long to build some. One day it would be great to have SFA and Sam in the playoffs just to show up the rest of the fcs. Good luck the rest of the season and keep fighting. Hopefully one day SFA will be back.

I am with you on this. Don't cut the program just get a coach that's worth a dam. The coach at Texas A&M at Commerce has their program on fire it would seem SFA could draw him over. Like someone said on here y'all spend more money than everyone in the conference on football. My family and I have been to Nac to watch the KATS and Jacks play years ago when we played at our own stadiums and y'all have a great place. It would be a shame to see it fall apart.

They are saying on our end that the game will be in Houston for as long as both schools wants it there. I tho really like it at Nac and Huntsville. Besides I hate driving to Houston for it since I live about 50 miles from Huntsville and 60-70 from Nac, (Centerville) I still have a blanket some lady was making at the game in Nac. I intentionally stayed away from here for about 24 hours because I was just flat out saddened by yesterdays output.

The family went down to the game. We had a total of 10. We did some tailgating between two sets of SHSU families. Both were great. Had a good time and conversation before the game started. It was obvious from the parking lot that SFA was outnumbered 2:1 by the people outside and it looked like it continued inside. We stayed until there was only about 5 minutes left in the game. Then we began the long walk back to the back of the blue lot where we had tailgated with such hope only a few hours before.

While it felt like there were a lot of blown calls what struck me was Byrd. When the offense was on the field he would just wander up and down the sidelines. He didn't seem to be engaged at all. I know he is a defensive guy and the offensive coordinator is calling all of the plays but it just looked like he was elsewhere mentally. I should have taken a picture but blanked - at one point. SFA is on the Sam end of the field - about the 40. The team is all on that end of the field. I look over and Byrd is off by himself on the SFA 35-40 with his back to the offense. There were a couple players at that end but he wasn't talking to them or coaching them. He was just pacing back and forth. It just looked like at times that he "just there."

I saw that as well. He's a good defensive mind. Offensively. He's just there. He's not gonna beat a talented team like Sam. He's just gonna "be there".

I completely understand that hes defensive minded and it shows that hes smart enough to let the offensive coordinator run the offense. My problem is what message does that show the team when the Head Coach isn't engaged enough to even watch the offense while on the field? What if a quick timeout needs to be called because Foster/Jake misses that the play clock is about to expire? How can he hold the refs accountable when his back is to the play? There are so many reasons he needs to be in the mix of things even when not calling plays. It was just ... I don't know ... hard to put into words ... odd ... watching that unfold.

Actually, I had tickets to the game but had to take care of some personal business in the Toledo Bend area and couldn't make it. (In retrospect, I guess that was God protecting me from what was coming.) My wife called me and gloated for only 30 seconds or so, which is probably much less than I would have done if the roles were reversed. And luckily, the Astros were on TV at the same time, so I was spared from watching much of the crapola at NRG.

I witnessed the same thing. My take is that Byrd is trying so hard to get this thing right that he is emotionally and intellectually worn out.
I am with you BigJack85 he looks worn the hell out... He has tried his ass off but as many of you guys said he has a huge huge hill to climb and he is tired mentally...

Hello everyone,

GOOD NEWS!!! my son did not play soooo I do not have that stupid orange color in my hair.

BAD NEWS!!! umm, that game just sucked.

Other tidbits... I got to spend the rest of the weekend dealing with frustrating freshmen players who all came from winning programs. They are so negative the air taste sour. So, spent a lot of time telling them to finish the year and see what new coach comes in before you all jump to JUCO which all of them want to do.

The thing that bothered me the most is they all told me the older guys that were playing did not care and were laughing about loosing. We have some decent guys coming up that may not be around because they believe everyone has quit and does not care, even the coaches.

Oh man, that's rough. I have faith we'll get a good coach & those young guys can be the foundation of a winning program.

Well Hit, That is an extremely discouraging report on this team. I understand the frustration of the freshman but I can't grasp that the culture of losing has the older guys just going through the motions and not giving a crap....can't believe they all feel that way and if you do then what's the point of practice and 2 a days if you don't have any desire or purpose. Just adds to the utter disappointment of 2018.
Sounds as if Ivey will have to completely clean house and find a young guy with some fire in his belly to come here sweep out the old attitudes (coaches and players alike) and start from scratch.
