We are camping and can't get enough bandwidth to stream. Getting the scoring updates. Sigh ...

I had to use pork tenderloin cooked on the grill with Dutch oven apple cobbler to ease the frustration

We did pull out the SFA cornhole set as well.

In all seriousness, how did the team look? We were playing one of the best in the nation so we have to take that into account.

Were the basics there?
Did Foster look comfortable in the pocket when he has time.
Did they do a decent job on pass protect, etc?
Tackling?

I admire some of you guys feeling optimistic about a complete butt whipping. Mississippi State #1 QB did not play and we gave up over 600 yards of offense. The next two games, Tarleton and UIW, are critical.

It's not as bad as it seems, Foster does look good. Defense had some big play breakdowns, But MSST recruits for one reason - to beat Alabama, not to keep it close with the Southland. They're pick to finish 2nd in the SEC West. We should be fine.

My two cents:

Basics - More No than Yes
Foster - Showed some promise. Didn't get much time to throw.
Pass protection: No.
Tackling: No. Lots of missed tackles.

I thought Oglesby looked good at RB when he got some blocking (which wasn't often).

Defensive backs and safeties gave up several long bombs. Blown coverage several times. I consider that the biggest disappointment of the night.

We were simply playing out of our league tonight. A huge difference between a top 20 FBS team and a middle of the road FCS team.

48-27 Baylor over ACU after 3

ACU has 440 yards of offense

That $500,000 or so payday will ease the SFA Athletics pain a lot.

This isn't SMU, Texas Tech, or TCU. MSST is one of the top SEC teams - # 1 OB is a Heisman candidate - that hides the fact that #2 is damn good. It's a butt whipping by a team that will butt whip other SEC teams. It's a cautious optimism, but not to the level of kool aid. You are right, we will see.

I tend to agree. I guess the problem is that we can't get games against lower tier FBS games. I mean New Mexico or New Mexico St or someone of that ilk would be doable.

It's called a 22 million dollar budget compared to a 2 million dollar budget... It is what it is.. They just built a 3.9 million dollar recruiting lounge... it was a great payday and we seem fairly healthy..

This was nowhere near as bad as it seemed. It was a top 25 fbs team. We are an fcs team trying to bid for a playoff spot. Let's move on from this.

Our real season starts next week....we need wins over Tarleton and UIW and then go from there deeper into conference play. I still expect us to make some noise back in our proper level.

After tonight. We beat either SHSU, MSU, or UCA. Or 2 of the 3 or 3 of them.

I might be crazy fo seeing this game as a positive. But we played the #18 team in the FBS. The #3 defense in the country.
We had some good moments on offense. On defense we had a lot of good moments.
Enough good to be optimistic. If anyone else in the conference played them it would be very similar.

Maybe. Nicholls lost by 2 to Georgia in 2016 and went around 5-6 and by 10 to A&M last year and went 8-4.

They should be a good team, but Kansas wouldn't win 5 games in the Southland, they're that bad.

We got blown out, which was realistically expected. 1st game, with a coach coaching his first game after learning he'd be coach on June.

Heck, we don't even have what I'd call a real OC.

Yet we didn't look worse than any of our previous buy games. We were able to move the ball against a great defense on occasion, Goree, Pace, and our TE went up and made some great catches against SEC DBs.

The defense blew some assignments, but I saw that alot yesterday across a whole host of games.

Our season starts on Monday, everyone seems to be fairly healthy,and there are no signs that we're any worse off than last year. That's a plus in my book, and I like Byrd a whole lot better than Conque.

I agree and would say this team can win the rest of their games, the pieces are in place.

POSITIVES

* No Injuries
* No Turnovers (Except for the one late INT near the end of the 4th)
* Only 56 yards in penalties
* 16 Nikki Wallaces
* TOP 31:16
* The team did not quite and competed hard on every play
* WR & TE Play (8 different receivers caught a pass; Goree with a very athletic catch at the goal line had the call reversed. Even the unbiased announcers said it was a bad call as the replay showed it was a catch) TE Allen Arclies is back and he had two nice long catches of 20+ up the middle.
* Defensive Front (But a lot of pressure on the QB; Thompson (6 QB Hurries) went 13-31 passing because he was hurried.)
* Foster Sawyer (when given time, he hits his target, didn't short hop anyone)
* Tamrick Pace (Caught 5 for 73 yards)
* Storm Ruiz (Went 2 for 2 and nailed his attempts right down the middle)
* Caleb Lawallen Punting (Almost 40 yards per punt and pinning 2 inside the 10)
* Jae'lon Oglesby is going to be the real deal, showed flashes of his agility and speed when the OL gave him some time to hit his openings.

lol I'm serious.

Watch the 3rd quarter again and you'll see what this team is capable of.

And remember with the exception of McNeese State, we played every SLC team last season pretty close with our second string QB.

From what I saw last night I think the defensive front is head and shoulders better and more aggressive.Yes the secondary needs to work on communication and gel some more (lots of new faces back there)

Lawson is dialing it up on defense and I saw a lot of penetration into that Miss State backfield last night against a top veteran SEC OL. They will not face another team with a line like that for the rest of the season. If they can do that against them, they can really do it against the SLC.

The question is will they? I saw a lot of fight and I credit that with the coaching of Byrd.

SLC, bring it on!
