As expected, ACU and Tarleton were eliminated from the playoffs today, ACU 51-31 to NDSU and Tarleton 42-31 to South Dakota.

UIW won 13-6 over Villanova.

Impressed with the fight ACU put up. Obviously outmatched and never doubted NDSU was going to win, but they put up a fight.

UIW got blessed with the classic Sam Houston easy route to the quarterfinals. Nova was not that strong of a team, and outplayed UIW for most of the game. SDSU is on a historic run, and even though UIW gave them a slight fight earlier this year, SDSU is much better now. For the conference's sake, I hope UIW shows up and gives them a fight again, but SDSU is like NDSU used to be. A team that can just beat you up and never slow down.

It's unreal how under recruited the Midwest is, and the Dakotas and Montanas of the FCS take full advantage of it, loading their roster with would be 4 and 5* talent that doesn't get the same look as the Texas, Florida, and California recruits.

First downs:
UIW - 25
Villanova - 9
Total Yards:
UIW - 441
Villanova - 138

Villanova did not out play UIW in any part of the game.

Marshall is having to completely rebuild their roster after losing their head coach.

Plus side for us is some FBS talent I'm sure our coaches are gonna target.

Bad thing is any of our guys who want to play FBS ball can have a guaranteed starting spot.

SDSU absolutely stomped UIW 55-14, ending the Bird's season. Calzada actually plays decently against the Jackrabbits who like to call themselves the Jacks now, but that SDSU roster is just unreal. The northern Midwest is so underrecruited, and the FCS schools up there take full advantage of it.

And 2024 SFA home opponent UC Davis is trailing South Dakota by a touchdown midway through the third.

Our schedule next year will be considerably more impressive.

And that will do it.

The final four of the FCS.

NDSU vs SDSU
SD vs Montana State

Man I hate that we didn't get a wack at Montana State this year.

My bad. I got them confused with Cal Poly. Brain is a little scrambled.

As of two days ago there were 6,311 active football players in the NCAA transfer portal. 2,073 are from FBS schools and 1,639 from FCS schools.

So, what's wrong with that? Here's what...There aren't 6,311 spots on teams available, much less 6,311 scholarships available.

And that does not count JUCO/NAIA/D2/D3 players looking to move up.

Diving into the portal is a heck of a gamble for a lot of guys, and great many of them are going to end up with a lump of coal in their stockings.

The gamble is even worse when you look at how many teams need or don't need a certain position filled. Even if you're not transferring explicitly to be starter, you need to bring value to a team, otherwise why would a coach waste a roster spot or scholarship on you to transfer in when they can get a freshman they might keep and be able to grow for 4-5(sometimes 6 or 7 apparently) years.

How many are in the portal because they got cut? In other words, it's not their choice to be there.

I haven't seem anyone attempt to quantify that.

I've never considered this factor. I assumed the portal was for players who were still actively on the roster.
