A couple of weeks ago some people on the interwebs got their panties in a wad because SFA drubbed an outmanned NAIA team 77-0 despite calling off the dogs midway through the 2nd quarter.

I wonder if those same folks are equally upset by South Alabama's manhandling of FCS school Northwestern State 87-10 last night? (Probably not...)

The bad joke that is NIL is starting to rear it's ugly head at UNLV. QB has led the team to 3-0 start, now saying he is not getting his NIL or that it was misrepresented to him. So he will now take his redshirt season and leave the team hanging----Translation is likely some other school has offered him more money so now he quits on UNLV, teammates and fans. No commitment, no concern, NO class.

This poor idea was only born to feed the rich schools. Don't understand the support for an idea that will help destroy college athletics.

Gee maybe we can start letting players transfer at halftime or at least every week.

There are so many reason for SFA NOT to go into FBS football. And to think I was a proponent, at one time. I'm not sure any more.

The NCAA needs to require all NIL deals to be in writing with a required amount of escrow.

The player says he was promised 100k by an assistant coach. The NIL collective says they never heard of this deal.

It's a mess that only clear contracts will clean up in the future.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. The combination of NIL and the transfer portal are destroying amateur athletics. It may be already beyond repair. Pandora's box.

In the Alabama vs. South Carolina game today, USC used their punter to attempt an onside kick near the end of the game. (Don't think I've ever seen a punter do that before.) It was perfectly done, and USC recovered. The spin on the ball was wicked. Maybe SFA can put that in their playbook.

Gonna be tough sledding across the board for he Texas teams. ACU might not have benched McIvor in the second half against us, many ACU fans noticed he was absent from the sidelines in the second half, possibly injured.


Tarleton seems to have peaked way too early in the season and just doesn't look like a playoff team right now.

I think we exposed UIW's weaknesses a bit, even with a backup QB. Containing their QB can make them very, very stoppable.

McNeese fires FB HC Gary Goff. Cowboys went 6-6 this year, and we know that at least one of those wins was not deserved.

ACU beats Northern Arizona 24-0 in the FCS first round. ACU was playing with their backup QB, since their main guy got hurt against SFA. They will play North Dakota State next week.

Tarleton also won, 43-29 over Drake. They will play South Dakota next week.

NAU wasn't as good as us or SLU. They got in because of their conference.

That being said, NDSU in Fargo with a backup QB is gonna be painful. NDSU is having a bad year(by their standards), but they'd still probably beat any team on our schedule by 40-50 points most games fully healthy. And the FargoDome during the playoffs is louder than some NFL stadiums.

Tim Rebowe has announced his retirement, so we will see what Nicholls does to try and replace him.

K.C. Keeler is expected to become the new head coach at Temple, sources confirm to ESPN. He's the coach at Sam Houston State who won a national title there and at Delaware. The Athletic first reported.

I am not saying Carthel is the answer, but he does have a history of winning over his career. He was hired into a complete mess at SFA. I believe SFA was docked on scholarships for was it two years? We have had financial issues which makes keeping the same coaching staff year to year difficult. Plus, changing conferences every few years to add to the distractions. I do remember a trip to the playoffs in 2021 with Carthel. He also gave us a winning season since 2011 for SFA during the NCAA restrictions in his second year.
If you look back at the WAC message boards, you can find individuals indicating that Whitten needs to go. He cannot operate at the D1 level. Well unfortunately for those they have made the playoff now. I am willing to give Carthel a couple more years myself.
As much as I would have like SFA to stay independent. The affiliation with the UT system is a blessing and should help Carthel with the program needs going forward. Except for Prison Tech, Tarleton and ACU have had advantage we have not had, MONEY. Considering many of these kids we try to recruit come from high schools that have facilities better than many colleges, Carthel has managed to attract talent to SFA with the facilities we have. He seems to be a coach that the kids believe in. This seems evident in Carthel's ability to keep most of his recruits year to year. I see hope for next year if the current nucleus returns intact. Then if he can recruit and find impact players from the transfer portal as he did this year, then there is hope for next year.
On another note, I do think athletics helps with a school's identity for students looking for a college to call home. But I do not think it is anywhere the major reason for selecting a university to attend unless you are an athlete in most cases. SFA has started in the right direction adding Engineering which will attract more students and appears to be focusing more on the future. The infighting prior to the accepting entry into the UT system seems to have stopped.

Now if the aviation program can expand to air traffic controller training. May be the airport can grow to accept chartered flights for those schools that can afford it should we move up a level. Also why are there no Hotels on University Drive? LOL

But the facts are our athletic program is getting lapped by other schools in the state especially on the men's side. If you can't see that then I'm sorry.

We have one playoff win in 14 years in football. Men's Basketball hasn't made it to the tournament in 8 years. Our baseball team is a glorified high school team. Thank god for women's basketball, bowling, volleyball, and soccer.

Everyone wants to make the same old tired excuses and keep coaches around because they are nice or they just need more time to lay the foundation (whatever the heck that means after six years). Those same damn coaches would drop us in a heartbeat if another better opportunity came along.

But yeah I'm negative because I'm tired of the losing, the excuses, and becoming a bottom tier department in a weak conference.
