Long-time reader, first-time responder. My concern for a long time has been the the football program. I believe that we are at a disadvantage facilities-wise and have been for decades. I was involved with the football program in the late-'70s and it seems that nothing has changed since as far as the field house and the stadium. I could be wrong on this, so maybe others who have more knowledge of this can provide input.
My opinion is the we have made the right move in becoming affiliated with the UT system. It's just time to hopefully tap those resources so that the football program is not so disadvantaged. I believe Coach Carthel is the right man for the job from a coaching and character standpoint; he is just fighting the recruiting wars with one arm tied behind his back.
I have been away pursuing a career for several years out of state and am now back in Texas in the San Antonio area. I hope to become more involved in the future. Love the banter here; just keep it respectful.
Agreed about the facilities. Although I do think Homer Bryce is better than Bowers, it goes back to the statement(which is true) that neither SFA or Sam Houston were ready for the FBS. The idea was for us to grow together and for both schools to fix everything up with their facilities to make them FBS ready.
As far as FCS facilities go Homer Bryce itself isn't the worst. It's actually larger than most FCS stadiums and benefits from there not being a bad seat in the house. The locker rooms and other facilities need a lot of work. If the FBS dream is still there, the stadium needs to be a priority, at the very least making it more visibly appealing, but if we're going to be content in the FCS for a while I think everything else needs to be improved.
Sam Houston leaving the WAC set us back I believe. But as was said I really hope the University of Texas system money helps us to improve our facilities at a steady enough pace where we can be on an even playing field.
