I'm not sure but I have have missed this before but I just confirmed that we have plans in place for baseball and softball to move to an on campus site sooner rather than later. The land is designated already. Is this old news?
Neither new nor old news. Like all athletic facilities, baseball and softball are part of the University master plan expected to be completed in November. There are some potential athletics facilities lay outs being worked on that most of the athletic staff has seen. Next steps are to consolidate the various parts of the master plan that are being worked on simultaneously. Once the master plan is complete, funding has to be raised. Funding for athletic facilities is different than for academics. There is no UT System magic pot of money for athletics.
There is a lot more work to be done before there are shovels in the ground for any of it.
So I have a question hopefully you can answer
If SFA was or is looking at new athletics stuff like fields etc and also academic expenses and or growth like new forms or classrooms etc and is having to raise money to pay for all this on both athletics and academic side it would limit how much can be spent in each area obviously since money is coming from one source to pay for all the wish list items on both sides
Now if Texas comes along and says hey we will give you money but only for academic side of things then what would keep SFA from using some of their own money they were going to have to use on academics and move that to athletics stuff since the horns decided to help on academic side?
The short of it is, I can't answer it. I've had two AD's and others attempt to help me understand facility, both academic and athletic, funding mechanisms. It's complicated. What I am confident of is that SFA does not have some academic facility pot of money available that could be moved to athletics.
Private donations are critical to funding both academic and athletic facilities, whether it's new or updated. But, much more for athletics. That, and a student athletic fee.
