Almost started the 2024 season with 4 in a row against Central Michigan and Texas A&M CC, it was all down hill after that.

You would have to go back to the 2023 season in March when the Jacks won 6 straight in the WAC against CBU, Utah Tech, and Sac. State who was a WAC member in baseball only.

Well the Jacks won't be playing an undefeated Baylor team on Tuesday, as the Bears just lost their first game of the season 7-8 to Gonzaga in extra innings.

SFA (4-4) vs. Baylor (6-1)

WHEN: Feb. 25 (Tues.) 6:30 P.M.

WHERE: Waco, Texas (Baylor Ballpark)

TV: ESPN+

BASEBALL HISTORY VS BAYLOR UNIVERSITY FROM FEBRUARY 11, 2006 - MARCH 12, 2024

SFA is 0-13-0 all-time in the series with the Bears, all on the road in Waco. Baylor has outscored the Lumberjacks in the last three meetings of the series 37-7. (2019, 2023, 2024)

The Lumberjacks take their 4-game win streak on the road this Tuesday into Waco, where they will face BIG XII foe, the Baylor Bears at Baylor Ballpark.

The Bears were picked to finish 13th out of 14 teams in the Big XII for 2025, as last season Baylor's roster was decimated with injuries, as 17 players at some point during the 2024 season missed a game due to injury. But this season those players are all back, they are healthy, and hungry to win.

In his 3rd season, head coach Mitch Thompson has Waco excited again for baseball and are looking for a break out season, having started the season with an impressive 3-game sweep of Youngstown State, outscoring the Penguins 38-11. Following up the sweep, the Bears held their next two opponents UTSA and Gonzaga scoreless.

The Bears lineup is senior heavy with lots of experience, currently batting an amazing .396 which ranks 7th in the nation. The lineup is highlighted by senior, SS #13 Tyriq Kemp from the Netherlands who can really burn the bases, and OF #9 Hunter Simmons the power hitter out of Mansfield, Texas. Both are batting over .500 after 7 games. The starting lineup as a whole, having scored 47 runs off of 68 hits, 15 doubles, 3 triples, 5 HR's, 54 RBI's, and 8 stolen bases, with only 2 pick offs.

2024 All BIG XII pitching ace, Junior LHP #36 Ethan Calder out of Lake Travis, won BIG XII Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after striking out a career-high 13 batters over five innings in a 10-4 victory. This season after two starts Calder has gone 12 innings, with an ERA of 0.75, giving up only 1 run off of 6 hits, walked 1, while striking out 15. Second in the rotation is 6th year senior LHP #38 Bryson Bales from Round Rock (Cedar Ridge) who has an ERA of 4.50 giving up only 4 runs off of 6 hits, walking 3, while striking out 13. Overall the Bears ERA is a 2.36 which is among the best in the conference.

It will be all hands on deck for this one, and a monster task and challenge for the Lumberjacks to bring their best to try and pull off a win in Waco.

Obviously this is why the baseball season is so long. It's hard to tell until at least mid season how good a team is. Even then a team can turn it on late and dominate.

That being said, this team has a rejuvenated energy about it. Which can always be expected with a new head coach but it's a little refreshing.
