We are a championship level team.. This will show them a good team will not be beat with a TO margin of -5... it will sting them but that's ok..Next week I expect the Defense to be on fire..
Absolutely agree.

Among the disappointment of tonight's game fans will look for who to blame, point fingers etc. BUT what should not be forgotten is that Lamar Completely shut down our running game tonight, we had nothing on the ground and basically quit trying to run. That alone changed the course of the game for SFA and we did not recover, did not try again to establish any running game and ending up throwing on every down. That is not our style of offense. The concern is that is the 2nd game in a row that our ground game was shut off, HCU held us in check on ground last week. Obviously, lots to look at and work on before the last 2 conference games and what awaits us in the playoffs--now likely looking at going on the road after probably one home game.

What was Rutherford's injury? I was at the game but was looking elsewhere when it happened.

There is no excuse. #2 teams show up and dont lose the Conference Championship, Auto Bid, and Home field advantage all in the same week. We did not want it bad enough. Sure, we are going to the playoffs but we arent going to Nashville this year. So we wait and hope for next year..... again!!
my goodness you need some help..

Landed hard on his throwing shoulder and the defensive lineman landed on him with his full body weight.

Gavin made it to the sidelines and collapsed in pain.
Came out on the injury tent later, threw one warmup throw, grabbed his arm and went back in the tent.

Hopefully nothing serious..

I wasn't able to watch the game in person. Did catch pieces of it in the +. We looked out of synch. Kind of like the first few series against HCU. LU is a good team. Through and through.

Big picture. Hopefully we learn something about intensity and penalties.

11-1 is still in sight. Lots to play for.

You've got to hand it to the guy, he's consistant from year to year. Same negativity.

I think Kitna is quite capable. The main thing is lack of reps in real time and with the first team. Even though he will get reps as #1 all week (assuming Rutherford is out) it's not the same as a 9 game starter would have gotten.
That said also, Jacks had better find that lost rushing game and get it going vs UTRGV.

It's fans like this that make the coaches have mixed feelings about the Sawmill.

I am jist going to call like it is....everytime!! I could CARE LESS if you like it or not!! I did not graduate from Sam. I graduated from SFA,and as an Alum, I want excellence every game (like Sam had in FCS!!

Brother this is college football. It is hard to go undefeated. How many teams remain undefeated on all levels of college football?

We might lose a game. The sky isn't falling.

Biggest worry I have right now our identity if we don't have a run game going. We then proceed the ball ALOT. We need to figure something out if the run game doesn't work.

Final thoughts before I put this one to bed, this may have really been what SFA needed. Not losing Rutherford, that's gonna be hard if he misses any extended time, but losing this game brings our guys back down to earth. They need to know they are beatable and that every game they need to bring their best football.

I think the last couple of games maybe there was an expectation that the rest of the season would be a cakewalk. Something that shouldn't be overlooked is that this is a very young football team that's way ahead of schedule for how good they are.

And losing now is much better than losing in 3 or 4 weeks.

There's still a very strong chance we end up with a 1st round bye, and if not we will host the first playoff game assuming we win out. Gotta get right and get healthy before then.

True about this being a very young team. We need to be reminded of that. The future is bright, even though the present is a bit shaded at the moment.

Thank you for your comment as well! Just being honest!! Gotta love at an at-large bid and another trip to Montana when it could have been a bye and home field advantage the whole way!!

And speaking of it being a young team, when reading the game summary from sfajacks.com, 15 players are highlighted. Only two of those 15 are seniors. The future is most certainly bright!!

After yesterday's game results, the Opta Analyst website playoff bracket predictions have Lamar as a 6 seed and us as a 7 seed (both with first round byes). They also have UIW getting in as an at-large selection.

We have to remeber that that SFA went 10-2 last year with their only FCS loss coming to an ACU team that was worse than this year's Lamar team. One loss doesn't throw the season out of the window. In fact we will be in the same boat as last year (hopefully) with a better team(in my opinion)

Of course, even with 4 TO and being on the road, SFA was only down 28-31 with under 6 minutes to play in the game.

11-1 first round bye, home field at least in the 2nd round, coming up.

That bye will be key for the health of our players. We seem a bit banged up.

OK, this may get me taken to the woodshed for saying this, but yesterday might turn out to be the best thing that could have happened to this team going forward (Rutherford's injury notwithstanding). I believe they learned an object lesson in what it's like to play a playoff caliber team.

This has to burn them up losing the way they did. Hold onto that anger, remember it, use it for fuel. This team has the capability and the coaching to go all the way. They just looked complacent to me yesterday. Flat as hell. Knowing Carthel, he won't let them forget this game.

I'm usually a glass-half-full type, but I actually don't feel so bad about what happened. Disappointed? Yes. Crushed? Hell no.

I think they needed to get smacked in the face before the playoffs.

One Lumberjack's semi-educated -- at best semi-educated -- take on it...

OK, let me have it!

Yep, you either win or your learn.

Worth noting, when Carthel won the natty at Commerce, he didn't go undefeated and he didn't even win the conference.

Conference titles are fun, but we have a bigger goal in mind.

Also going back and watching the replay, here's a few plays that swung the game.

-Bugs slipping on his cut resulting in an interception.

-Very bad inadvertent whistle call on the opening kickoff that erased a turnover that would've given SFA the ball inside the 30, but got overturned.

-an interception that bounced right out of the DBs hands and into the Lamar receivers resulting in a long touchdown. Even the announcers said it was an interception at first.

- Gavin Rutherford getting hurt during the comeback attempt.

This game was just full of bad bounces and bad luck for SFA. It reminded me a lot of the Montana State game where bad luck just took away so many big chances.

I agree with you. Could be a "eye opener".

Last season was epic. At this point last season, we were 8-2 with a Massey Rating of 11

We are 9-1 with a Massey Rating of 8. We can still get a 6 or 7 seed and make some noise.

In the post game interview Carthel said he thinks that both Rutherford and Gray should be OK next week. We shall see.

Hopefully Rutherford is ready to go. That being said, I think we should be able to run on UTRGV. And Kitna is more than competent. If he (Rutherford) is still creaky, Kitna gets the start. Lots of Jenkins, Speedy and Alford

Defense comes to play.
