Will be without a senior player. She is going to Mississippi State as a grad student.

Big loss, but it was when, not if. Great guy.

SLC announced on 7-24 that no SLC volleyball or soccer will be played through August 31st. Apparently right now they can go ahead with games scheduled starting Sept 1st.

New assistant coach. Fun fact. He went to high school with Tyler Boone in Perrysburg, OH. Small world.

Fluid schedule. Looks like volleyball may have about ten matches this fall. I think we play UCA at 2:30 on Friday. Young team that needs all the games they can get.

Old fashioned beat down. Surprising after UCA took them to five sets. We are young. It is a long season. Really, really long. These fall matches will be very beneficial for the spring conference matches.

Our first match this weekend is against Lamar. They have a total of 7 players here.
SFAJack_76
How long do you want to ignore this user?
25-7 first set. Lamar played ULM earlier today. Somehow they won a set.

ULM watched our first set. They just left.
SFAJack_76
How long do you want to ignore this user?
25-14 and 25-7 to finish.
SFAJack_76
How long do you want to ignore this user?
ULM is tall, but we played a nearly perfect first set. 25-8

Our freshmen .... wow.
SFAJack_76

25-19 second set. ULM played much better. We were not as sharp.
SFAJack_76

25-11 in the third. 3-1 on the year.

Maddy Borque - from Illinois. Second on the team in assists.
Ashley Procious - Leads the team in blocks. Solid defense in the middle.
Leah Powell - Third in kills. Fifth in blocks. Big arm.
Susan Gillett - top five in several categories.
Bryli Contreras - Second on the team in service aces. Solid back row defense.

Also,
Junior Juco transfer Allie Hamsher leads the team in assists.
Sophomore transfer Margozata Anderson from Poland, hasn't played a lot, but is still third on the team in assists. Very sound serve also.
Sophomore Payton Cerny played sparingly as a freshman, at last partially due to coming off a foot injury. Big, 6'4" girl with a big left arm. Solid blocker.
Sophomore Ariana Pagan, from Puerto Rico, is a six rotation player. She was really good as a freshman. Her game in all aspects is improved. Her serve receive is much better.

MB Taya Mitchell and DS Madelynn Miller are the only two of four seniors with meaningful playing time. Miller is a first team all conference talent, and will be missed next year. Mitchell is solid, but hasn't played at the same level as last year. Freshmen are earning some of her playing time.

More than you asked for, and hard to critique after seeing two matches against inferior competition, but I am really excited about this year and the future. Competition in the two matches today won't be much different with another against undermanned Lamar, and one against 0-2 HBU.

HBU now 1-2 after beating ULM 3-0 this morning.

Uninspired 3-0 win over Lamar. HBU next at 6:30.

Great summary, Alan. I was a bit worried about the program falling off after the loss of so many seniors, but I'm not worried anymore. Humphreys is obviously just as good at recruiting as she is in coaching. Having tremendous past seasons doesn't hurt either.

A too entertaining five set match against HBU with the Ladyjacks taking it 15-9 in the fifth. Led by sophomore Peyton Cerny with 21 kills and three blocks. Freshman Leah Powell was next with 16 kills. Sophomore Ariana Pagan was also in double digits with 11 kills.

Good win against a tall, experienced team to go to 5-1. Five of the twelve we played are freshmen. Next up are three games in Mobile. Two against USA, and another match against ULM. Humphreys has talked about another road tournament, but hasn't finalized details. Every game this young team gets this fall is a plus.

Debbie just keeps cranking them out. HBU is usually a top 1/3 of the conference team, so no slouch.

What is most impressive to me about Debbie is that after over 30 years, she still has a very high level of drive and intensity. Against HBU, she was as fired up, excited, upset, etc. as I have ever seen her. She will "woe is me" about a team with 11 new players, but thrives on the challenge. After the match, her husband told us that through all the matches, perhaps five times she has looked at him in the stands. She did last night with wide eyes, and taking her mask down long enough to mouth "wow".

We are fortunate to have her, and she isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

We are quite fortunate! Debbie is a gem and is one of the best coaches in college volleyball.

As if this season hasn't been tough enough, games scheduled Friday and Saturday in Mobile are at risk due to Hurricane Sally. USA has sent everybody home that can go home. So when the players get back, they will have to be tested, etc. Maybe matches get moved to Saturday, and or Sunday. Crazy year.

And just like that, three matches gone.

Can we just play ULM?
