ULM is tall, but we played a nearly perfect first set. 25-8
Our freshmen .... wow.
Which freshmen are already beginning to shine?
Maddy Borque - from Illinois. Second on the team in assists.
Ashley Procious - Leads the team in blocks. Solid defense in the middle.
Leah Powell - Third in kills. Fifth in blocks. Big arm.
Susan Gillett - top five in several categories.
Bryli Contreras - Second on the team in service aces. Solid back row defense.
Also,
Junior Juco transfer Allie Hamsher leads the team in assists.
Sophomore transfer Margozata Anderson from Poland, hasn't played a lot, but is still third on the team in assists. Very sound serve also.
Sophomore Payton Cerny played sparingly as a freshman, at last partially due to coming off a foot injury. Big, 6'4" girl with a big left arm. Solid blocker.
Sophomore Ariana Pagan, from Puerto Rico, is a six rotation player. She was really good as a freshman. Her game in all aspects is improved. Her serve receive is much better.
MB Taya Mitchell and DS Madelynn Miller are the only two of four seniors with meaningful playing time. Miller is a first team all conference talent, and will be missed next year. Mitchell is solid, but hasn't played at the same level as last year. Freshmen are earning some of her playing time.
More than you asked for, and hard to critique after seeing two matches against inferior competition, but I am really excited about this year and the future. Competition in the two matches today won't be much different with another against undermanned Lamar, and one against 0-2 HBU.
