The Lumberjacks are in the middle of a three game road trip playing the GCU Antelopes in Phoenix. The last time they played there Gavin Kensmil put in maybe the most dominant performance of his career. This year the Jacks played a solid game in Nacogdoches to get the win, but they never really shook the Lopes. This game is going to come down to solid team defense and some great individual offense. Which purple team comes up with the plays is anyone's guess right now.
Losing to winless New Mexico State was a blow for this team. In the seeding rankings, the loss hurt more than beating first place Seattle the game before helped. However, the season is far from over despite the bad loss. Win today, and the Jacks will move up into fifth place in the seeding for the first time.
The Jacks know the drill. Rayshon Harrison is the man after Blacksher went down. GCU hasn't fully recovered going 3-4 since he left. The Lopes want to score from the outside at home and they want the crowd behind them.
Our bigs have been struggling lately. Teams have figured out that are defense is stronger against set passing plays, and they have started relying on penetrating dribble drives to keep from turning the ball over and getting our bigs into foul trouble. We have to adjust our defense to stay in front of the ball without getting burned from deep.
Without much offensive production from the post the last couple of games, teams are forcing our perimeter players to win the game. We may have the talent to do that, but that's not our game plan. Opening up the lane has to be a priority today.
The Jacks would obviously like to recreate Kensmil's blowout performance, but this one will probably be tight. A huge one for both teams.
