Additional comments around the atmosphere.
One thing that GCU does well is everything with the students runs through the athletics department (for the most part). It starts when the schedule comes out, the students know they have precise games that are going to be themes. Go look at their schedule...it lists every theme game on there (our game was God Bless America night).
The Havocs have their leaders that help organize and run the events, but again the entire student body knows what to expect. Each game they arrive to their quad next to the arena to have their tailgate/pregame party. They do everything together.
GCU has a P5 budget in a mid-major league, so we can't compete there. But we have to figure out how to work with the students better. I know we're trying, so it's not all on our staff, the students have to buy in. But I think there are some things we can do pretty easily to help make our basketball games an overall fun experience.
