SFA (25-5, 16-2) vs. Corpus (16-15, 10-10)
WHEN: MAR. 7 (SAT) 3:30 P.M.
WHERE: Merrill Center (Katy, TX)
WATCH: ESPN+
Southland tournament play kicks off today for the Ladyjacks after a dominating season that saw only two blemishes. But don't be mistaken, today is a grudge match. Corpus is the only team that holds a better head to head record against the Ladyjacks this year (0-1) after they snuck out a home court win by two points. It was the Ladyjacks' worst shooting performance by far and one they will redeem today.
SFA has shown they have the deepest team in the Southland able to switch out players at any position with impunity. The Johnson sisters own the forecourt with Mayfield and Harvey battling for rebounds too. Bri Mitchell, Visscher, Hamling can all handle point duties while scoring themselves. (Doubtful, but if Banfield is cleared today then there is even more depth out front.) Then there is the inimitable Chanell Hayes who can drain threes, make tough drives, and have some of the quietest 25+ point games. Bri Burns rounds out the talent at shooting guard.
SFA will try to punish Corpus offensively putting up shots and out rebounding them all day long. The Lady Islanders are coming off two convincing wins in two days, but a third high level game is going to be tough. The Ladyjacks need to be ready for a strong early surge by a team that's already warmed up to tournament play. The Jacks and Kellogg are on a mission after last year's Finals collapse - and this year they are putting the hammer down until they hold the trophy.
It's all been building to this. Now it's time to win in Katy. Axe 'em Ladyjacks!
