Wow. What a game. We are going to have to get it together before the Lamar game!! That was too close!

VERY LUCKY to get this win. Spare me the we outplayed them or any of that talk. UIW came in with a good plan offensively--without all the early drops they had this game turns out differently.

I do agree with Rutherford. Games like this make the team better and gives a wake up call. We needed a game like this.

To our credit we did prevail in the final score. Definitely was our biggest test so far.
Plenty work on with the bye week. Some fewer penalties, no stupid fouls and respect every opponent.

Will be seeing much more QB draws from opposing teams from here on out.

So glad to see the Jacks at 6-0 going into the open week.

Outplayed, outcoached, out kicked but not outscored. Take it and move on. Credit UIW. We let them believe in the 2nd quarter and this is what can happen.

Fun to be 6-0… thankfully

Correct on all counts. We play like this against Lamar and we're toast, especially at their place.

After tonight only SFA and Lamar are undefeated in conference play, SFA @ 3-0 and Lamar @ 2-0.

Jenkins has only carried the ball 5 times. What gives??

I don't get that either. Seemed like we could have used more of him

Pretty good bet that Jenkins got banged up in some way--that's the only imaginable reason that his play was limited tonight.
Bye week a good time to heal minor injuries.

Our cornerbacks were exposed. It's ok to give up some of those slants in the crease. But those routes on the outside. They just FEASTED on us. We controlled the run. But today our DB's looked average. At best.

I don't think Nicholls will test us, so maybe we can make some adjustments.

Frisby is the best DB in the country. No question.

A couple of plays down the stretch, he was beat. Badly.

For chunks of the game he was more than good.

ACU beat #18 West Florida 35-7
HCU shut out a bad Nicholls State team 16-2 (they got a safety on a holding call in the end-zone)
East Texas A&M beat UTRGV 20-17

Players who could (should, IMO) lose their starting spots after tonight's bad play...K Alvarado and DB Morgan-Collins.

BTW, irony... Morgan-Collins got burned several times on deep throws, then (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) was the guy that made the tackle on the 2-point conversion that saved the game.

Alvarado. ***. mystifying.

And Morgan Collins. Definitely got outplayed more than 5-6 times.

Good football teams know how to win on their worst days. It's consistent with every good program at any level. Rough performance but we will bounce back.

Now that I've had time to digest this. We played and won a bad game by us. If we look at the previous 5 games, at least 2 of which were against tougher opponents, this was an outlier bad game for us.

SFA found a way to win when playing like ***** It is what it is. Gavin played really well all night, his interception was a clear as day PI that wasn't called. The receivers couldn't get separation but made plays when they needed to. And the defense, despite giving up a ton of yards, stood tall when they needed to.

This game is not a game to freak out about. There are things to work on, but we've seen several times this season that this SFA team is much better than what we saw against UIW.

Bad games happen. This was a bad game. Now they have 2 weeks to think about it, get mad, and take it all out on Nicholls to get the ship back on track.

Sure, terrible game by the Jacks. But they proved they can survive a bad game and still come away with a win.

I agree that Rutherford played decently. His O-line did a bad job of protecting him and he still passed for 291 yards. O-line gave up 3 sacks and 8 tackles for loss. UIW's Jeremiah Young had those 3 sacks and 3.5 of those TFL's. Future All-Conference player, for sure.

Let's give UIW some credit. They were a very good football team. By far the best we've played this year. Don't be surprised if they knock off Lamar next weekend and perhaps win the rest of their games.

I'm still wondering about Jaylen Jenkins' status. Only 6 carries for 4 yards.

Hard to pick a Player of the Game in this mess of a game, but I'd give it to Clayton Wayland. 104 receiving yards and one score.

That's what makes this SFA team different than past teams, finding a way to win, the true sign of a championship caliber team.

Interestingly, I think UIW could potentially be the 3rd best team in the SLC this year.

If they can steal one against either SLU or Lamar and win the rest of their games, I think they'll have a stronger playoff resume than SLU and sneak in as the 3rd SLC team at 8-4.

They were competitive, albeit turnover happy, against an extremely good NAU team on the road. Yes they did need overtime to beat HCU but HCU looks really competitive this year too. UIW's offense can be elite when they limit mistakes, and we certainly saw flashes of that. They're certainly the fastest team we've faced this year so far.

Not to make excuses, but UIW might end up being one of the tougher teams we've played this year when it's all said and done.

When the head coach at HCU said that the team had improved from last season is an understatement, you better be ready for HCU.

HCU (3-3; 2-1)

W@#19 SLU 34-28
L@Rice 3-31
W Arkansas Baptist 88-0
L@UIW 23-30 (OT)
L@North Texas 14-63
W Nicholls State 16-2

I think the biggest thing that hopefully the players took away from this is that there are no easy wins from here on out. Doesn't matter who we play, Nicholls, HCU, RGV, doesn't matter. We are every Southland teams Super Bowl, and we will get their absolute best shot.

SFA can win every game from here on out by 50, but if we play flat like we did last night, teams will take advantage of it.
