I am very much looking forward to the incredible social media graphics that we're gonna crank out this week.

"Top 90 FCS offense with a kid named Sam playing QB against teams from Louisiana during night games against teams with State in their name."

I have a feeling that Carthel will be gone by next week. Maybe I'm wrong.

Season is over. Throw in the towel. Get a head start on next season. With Sam getting no PT, it speaks volumes about his injury. But even with Rutherford getting the snaps, absolutely winnable game. And the coaches screwed us, yet again.

Move on to next year and the next staff.

We sucked. But even so, if we do better clock management at the end of half we get a fg, if we kick an easy fg instead of going on 4th down in the 1st half, and if we kick a fg because that's all we need at the end, we win. When you're playing horrible the coaching has to help you. Once again it failed miserable. The Carthel experiment isn't going to take us anywhere other than middle of the road, and this is the freakin' Southland.

Not saying next year is the year at all.

I'm saying let's get a head start on rebuilding the program, instead of the off season. Even if "the year" is 10 years away. Let's start now so it's not 11 years away.

Carthel needs to bring his resignation letter to the Presser if the AD does not fire him before he makes it off the field!! Tired of this B S every ****ING year!!

If Vidlak doesn't come back, we'll finish the year with three straight losses.

If Rutherford starts next week, we'll lose by 30. Play McElyea. I cannot believe that he could be worse than Rutherford. No way, no how.

We lose by 30 if UIW calls off the dogs.

They may be 50 points better.

If this is not the worst loss in SFA history, it's in the Top 2 or 3 in my lifetime.
In the 5 decades that my family has been associated with SFA this is the worst and most surprising loss I can recall.

Ya. Hard to say what this program needs. As close to a gimme as you can get. Even with QB1 being out.

A team CAN'T be that dependent on one player. Mind boggling.

100%. And we should still have no problem with a 1-8 team even if we go with QB2.

Hate to feel like this on the forum but it does feel like Carthel has decelerated. So much talent. So many questionable game management decisions. Or in the backup case, only question marks. Question marks.

I have no faith that Carthel is capable of succeeding at SFA. He's had time to make a mark, he's had recruiting classes that were heralded, and yet nothing but mediocrity year after year. I'm weary of waiting for basketball season every year to have something to get excited about.

Based on Carthel's recent demeanor, I believe he either has something else already lined up and has chosen to move on, or he was given an ultimatum by McBroom and Weaver, win or else. I think it's the latter. .
I recall seeing this same demeanor in previous SFA coaches in their last year before they have been dismissed...

Yikes.. Even with a Phantom False Start, this game just sucked on all fronts. The offense felt flat, and Rutherford's arm was missing everyone. We should have blown ETAMU out of the water. I love Carthel for recruiting but that it. He damn well recruits well, but man he has an Awful Coach.

Hitting rock bottom twice in a year, a new low for SFA football.

I have a hard time seeing SFA holding onto Carthel after this one, that being said it should be considered that if we lose Carthel, we likely lose Vidlak, Harris, Nabors, Eddings, and a lot of other players he brought in.

Vidlak is 100% gone if Carthel leaves.

Vidlak was the difference last night between us winning by probably 3+ touchdowns and us losing unfortunately. The receiver did their job creating separation. The line gave Rutherford time to throw. Several wide open passes were overthrown, and I counted at least 3 100% touchdown passes. I'm sure there were more.

The worst part is that Gavin is not that bad. Either they tried to use him as a pocket passer or he chose to try and be pocket passer but they didn't use him properly. Gavin has some wheels and can run. For whatever reason we did not use him in the running game at all and he didn't take advantage of many wide open running lanes when protection broke down.

I don't necessarily blame the coaches for not switching to Mcelyea at any point. Gavin probably practiced with the starters all week and they probably felt he had a better rhythm with the starters than Dalton, who mostly practices with the 3rd string, would. But we didn't change the gameplan hardly at all to fit a different QB's skill set. Even more frustrating is that we are less than a year removed from a QB who had a similar skill set to Gavin, and Chris Ross coached an offense with a running QB before.

It just baffles me that we didn't try to make the offense work with someone who wasn't a pure pocket passer.

I will try to remain hopeful for the future of this team. If we lose Carthel we will lose a lot of these stud players. We have to hope that what Vidlak said to the Daily Sentinel about loving Nac is true, and have to hope that IF we do move on, it's a superstar hire.

I refuse to think it's that hard to bring a consistently winning program to Nacogdoches.

IMO the worst loss in SFA football history would be the 2010 home game against last place Texas State, when SFA was up 24-0 with less than 10 minutes to play, and loss 27-24.

SFA was in 1st place (would go on to win the SLC Championship and riding a 9-game home winning streak)

All valid points and I agree. Carthel has another year on his contract and we should let him play it out. He (Carthel) has to know that next year the microscope will be on him. As if it isn't already.

My key point with this team is the let down(s). Losing Vidlak was huge. But good teams push through a team like Commerce. We didn't. That gives me solace.

6-6 makes me barf. I'm not optimistic, but Carthel needs to conjure up another win. I'm not certain I see the path with a Gavin.

If, If Carthel can bring back 90% of the crew that beat Nicholls etc , we could be more successful next year. The Lumberjack faithful have been put through some ____ over the past 4-5 years. Let's get some mojo.

The ref said it??? I thought it was Carthel. "I declined the f****ing penalty was what I thought we heard on the broadcast. Maybe it was "they declined the penalty" being said by the Head Referee to another ref that was going to mark it off. Apparently so since he is getting 2 games off.

Carthel is going no where.. So stop getting upset and demanding he be fired... He has another year and will have to produce a winning record to stay.. He is so much more than a coach to our players and I respect and love him for that.. Yes I know there have been some questionable calls and bad clock management but that goes along with the game.. To put the blame all on the coaches is not the right thing to do.. Some of these players need to step up and get fixed whatever is broken.. No doubt if Sam was playing last night the outcome would of been way different.. Stop riding the fire Carthel train because the two weeks leading up to this game you all had playoff visions..

I want to be clear that I do not want to see Carthel fired. I believe he is on the cusp of having the team pushed further than we've seen in recent memory. That being said I think the cards are stacked against him at this moment. If we can squeeze out a win against UIW or ACU I think the seat cools down a little.

Hell if we win the last 2 against a top 10 and top 25 opponent and some other 9 win teams around the country lose, there's gonna be some chaos and the very slight possibility that we benefit from it.

Now IF Carthel sticks around, it'll be the final year of his contract and if he wants to be extended its playoff or bust. Maybe even a playoff win or bust. All doable. But we're gonna need Sam to stay healthy and hold on to the majority of this roster.
