I don't get how you're inside the 10 and run 3 draws and go for it on fourth down instead of taking the points.

I don't get a lot of the offensive scheme and the lack of creativity. There's only so long your defense can hold you in a game.

It's time to find a new OC.

It's almost as if we were totally dependent on a world-class NFL WR to make up for the lack of creativity.

Now that Gipson isn't around, we seem to get stuck in the mud at the absolute worst times

Running clock. This was weird play call..

Over 2 minutes to go too and could catch the defense off guard. Still time to try and run some clock and try to catch the defense napping. Obviously didn't work, but scoring too fast, especially against UCA, can be just as bad. Again that wasn't a bad play call.

I'm not defending Storm. I think his play calling has held back our talent. Across the board I think we have a top FCS roster that isn't really being used correctly. We could have an entire roster of P5 talent and without creativity we will get blown up against top competition.

Hey, we'll get them, and the other 3 losses, next year. 'Cause we were promised a championship season, so it must be next year.

That could be another issue we have with offense. We were always looking for plays to involve Gipson for obvious reasons. Now that Harris is emerging as a go to guy it seems we look for him more often when there are other receivers available. Rikel had a big game vs Commerce 2 games back--caught 2 last week then was forgotten and this week he had 2 good receptions early then didn't see much more action. Ty Love has been forgotten. Wafer seldom used. OC seems to find a weapon and overplays it.
While we do have 2 good RBs, we continue to run the ball at questionable times and situations. I mean Wimbley can make good yardage, drags tacklers and falls forward.....but 80 yards away with less than 2 minutes is not the time. 3rd and short or 4th and short is not always the time when our game films tell the opponent what we are likely to try. Sometimes it seems that the offense works against itself based on play calling. IMO.

Its been "Next Year" forever. One thing has remained consistent over the last 25 years...my weekends are frequently ruined by SFA Football!!

Let me just get these over with…

"We are only 3-4 plays away from being 6-1"

"They are still trying to adapt to the new schemes"

"We are young"

"We are close. Next year will bring more experience"

Did I miss anything?

I am sick of hearing those same statements year after year!!

I'm just about done with Colby. I get it…he's funny and an awesome person. But he's not a great football coach. I think we see that almost every week with his coaching decisions.

We know he'll stick with Storm at OC, so what's the point? Whatever.

You called it Longnecks. I agree, we forced the run too much. Still think the pass play calls were good, which I have never felt that was something we did creatively.

The two missed field goals really hurt. I feel like it's a consistent theme for a few small mistakes to create a big difference in the outcome of the game.

I do think it's time for a new OC though… I've felt that way since last year.

Maurer played great. I think Weeks did a great job for the position he was put in. Not much else we can ask for from him. Put us in the position to win and we just didn't get the job done.

The most frustrating thing about the first one is that it's mostly true.

We're snakebit sometimes.

So dang close, yet so far.

I'd like to see Gavin Rutherford get a few snaps as the backup QB the rest of the way. But not in enough games to lose his redshirt though. He came in with lots of hype as one of the best HS QB's in the Houston area. I'd like to see what he's got.

From my understanding that game was a non-conference game, so we are still at 0-2 in conference play.

Yes. That's what the ESPN announcers said a couple of times.

I did notice last week while looking at the schedule that there was no UAC symbol mark on the game.

So we are still, though slim, in this race.

Long time listener, first time poster. Actually just created an official account.

Find myself going back to the questionable coaching from this staff. The stupid jump pass vs Utah Tech. Wasting the Xavier Gipson's talent, along with having Trae Self back for his final year.

The press conferences that I watch on a weekly basis is the same old bs. For someone who preaches accountability, our head football coach always has an excuse.

I've lost faith in the current leadership.

Not trying to make excuses, but we aren't able to recruit at the level I think we could, if we had modern facilities. Colby is fighting with some real handicaps. I'm not saying that other schools don't have issues, but we clearly need some updates ( at minimum). Getting updates doesn't guarantee success, but it certainly gives us a fighting chance for some of the top tier recruits.

Facilities aren't a reason for poor coaching and bad decisions.

We've had #1 recruiting class, top 5 and top 10. It's not recruiting. Either we can't develop the talent or we can't coach it when it's there.

I would love to have better facilities at SFA, but facilities did not stop Willie Fritz and KC Keeler from recruiting top talent, achieving excellence, AND winning a NATTY at Sam Houston! Bowers stadium is no showplace. It is no better than ours!! We need top leadership if we really want to win. Carthel "Chose Us" 5 years ago and has achieved very little during his tenure!!

What a turd response. I don't think facilities will fix "everything". It wouldn't hurt to have facilities comparable to a good 3A program.

Update: Turd response might be a little strong, but the fact is, we are behind from a facilities standpoint. It does have an impact.

I think the current staff has proven it can develop talent.

But it's not the talent, it's coaching and in-game management.

Poor old 99 just can't let go of his idols Fritz and Keeler. Mentioned them several times a season while whining that he didn't want us to play Sam anymore. Are you sure you don't have some Sam swag hanging in your abode?

I'm sure that Ivey is waiting for you to contact him with a "can't miss" coach he should hire.

Maybe Jimbo Fisher will come here and coach us for free after he gets his buyout!

Well 99 isn't entirely wrong.

Look at Sam and UIW and their facilities and the success they've had. Sam has had continued success in football for 10+ years and UIW has only been around for 10 years but in those 10 years they already have more playoff wins than SFA has had in 28 years.

Only difference is they are closer or located in major cities. I'm sure there are other examples out there as well.

I know someone mentioned UIW has caught lightning in a bottle but hell we can't even catch a lightning bug in a bottle.

You can't really blame the facilities for recruiting issues or lack of "studs" when Carthel has had three top 10 recruiting classes in the five years he's been here.

Interestingly enough, my dad was a prof at SH for 35 years. I came to SFA because I could not stand the attitudes at Sam Houston. SFA is a truly special place and I had an exceptional time there as a college student. Nobody had an attitude at SFA (until I jpined this forum.)
BTW, I cant stand the color orange and have zero swag from SH!!)

The only swag I display is an SFA flag in my yard, and SFA plates and Lifetime Alumni stickers on both cars!

So please do not question my SFA loyalty or when I speak my personal views about SFA Football!!

Bottomline is we need a TOP caliber coach. Not one who hypes things up and does.not deliver! Fritz AND Keeler are prime examples.
