The New DC at CSUP

Another significant loss to our defensive coaching staff. Good dude with a bright future.

Big shoes to fill, but good for him on a nice career promotion.

Yes this one checks all the boxes of hurt for SFA football. I was surprised he wasn't plucked sooner. After last years defensive staff departures, he should've been our new DC. I'd imagine he will make a lot of noise at Pueblo

understand why Wilson de-committed... I always said he should of had the shot at DC last year.. I trust in Coach tho and we move forward..

Looks like he's already poaching kids from Houston, he always had a hand in bringing in the talent. Good get by Pueblo

He got the talent because the talent believed in him and he is a man of God... Good talent will gravitate towards him like BJ and his family have.. With Coach Caid you got everything he would hide nothing..I remember a couple springs ago JFM was in town and it was his first glimpse at Coach Caid and his style and the types of drills and fundamentals he was teaching.. JFM mumbled to me "we got us a coach here... i didnt start learning these drills until I made it to the league". So i know Coach Caid knows what he is doing and coaching our players up to the next level... We will miss him for sure.. I will miss going to his office and talking to him...We will see him on the next level one day..

Very sorry to read about this accident. Also Micah McAfoose was the other occupant, former player on SFA baseball. So tragic to lose these young lives. SFA will have counselors available next week for students.

Oh, that's awful! I didn't know the other occupant was a student athlete, too.

I'm sure many on this list are not coming back due to graduating, portal, etc.

I was not sure who is staying their extra year, or if they were moving on.

Makes me almost miss the days when we had a field house full of assistant coaches that nobody wanted.

Not really. Not at all. Part of the price of having successful, high quality people.

Coach Faske coach Ike and also coach Brendan Faske grad asst are all departed. Little Faske I understand to be a workhorse and valuable in recruiting. A lot of hits to our defense these couple of years I wonder if the younger brother went to Colorado with his brother?

I'm making assumptions that (1) They will be here in the Fall and (2) They will be starters and (3) They will be healthy...

BUT,

The Maurer/WImbley duo in the backfield gives me Pat White/Steve Slaton vibes from West Virginia.

Is it an extreme comparison?

Yes...but, that's what I am here for.

I think it'll be a spring battle between him and Preston. Preston is the better passer by a pretty good margin and has the experience but Maurer brings a very good athletic edge and an attitude that SFA really has never had at the QB position that could be contagious to helping our team play better.

Notice when he would go in during garbage time he would always be very fired up and get everyone else pumped up.
SFASawmillGuy

That being said I think Brian's heart is still at Tennessee and if he has a breakout year for SFA this year I could see him transferring back in a hurry. Needs to win a natty first though. That's my demand.
Jacks4460

You are correct it will have to be earned because Weeks is going to get the #1 reps starting off.. I hope Mauer competes and earns the job.. Because if we went into the season next week then Weeks would be the starter..

See point 2.

I have no clue if he is the starter. I know that in the super limited time he played in 2022, I liked what i saw.

Laser rocket arm. Can run. Elite trash talker.

My kind of QB.

Our D-Line struggled last year no doubt but the Def Ends weren't the problem I can tell you that. From watching practices frequently and games.. Those guys were playing at a high level. Our Def Tackles were young and will be much improved.

Will be interesting to see if Watson can replicate what Faske did here at SFA…

For a second time we have lost a DC. Cauthen (good or bad) is headed to Utah state And we let arguably an excellent choice for DC in Faske get away too. Storm will have to step up his game with yet another defensive question mark looming.
