SFA (1-1; 1-4) vs. SAM HOUSTON STATE (2-0; 3-2)

WHEN: OCT. 5 (SAT) 3:00 P.M.
WHERE: HOUSTON, TEXAS (NRG STADIUM)
TV: ESPN+

Spirits are high with SFA coming off their first win of the 2019 season over Lamar, snapping a 7-game losing streak in the process.

The Lumberjacks will now turn their attention towards breaking another losing streak; you know that 8 -game losing one to their bitter rival the Bearkats of Sam Houston State (evil music) in the 94th edition of the Battle of the Piney Woods.

SFA will have their hands full against an offense that averages 41 points a game and a defense that only gives up 17.

The QB duo of Ty Brock or Eric Schmid has combined for 115 completions 1,596 yards and 12 TD/8 INT with their favorite targets WR Nathan Stewart and Dee Bowens together who have recorded 50 catches for 767 yards and 7 TDs.

No secret Sam Houston State has dominated this series since the year 2000, winning 16 of 19.

The Lumberjacks having appeared to have turn a corner as a team 5 games into the season, no doubt look forward to the challenge.

Still pissed about that time that Sam Houston tried to dox me for a joke about running their Twitter.

Let's go beat the snot outta them.

May have missed, but I count eight freshmen that have played five games, so their redshirt opportunity is gone.
SFAXE93

Thanks, and yes those game counts should be accurate as I have kept track as well.

Marje Smith must have been the hurt lineman that went out last game as he did not play in the Lamar game.

Looking at the stats and seeing how many freshmen are leading this team in this and that, the future is scary good.

I believe Smith is out for the season. Weeks is out for the season also. I don't like putting out injuries, but after games go by, folks figure it out.

What is Carl Williams' situation? I believe that someone said they saw him on the field last night. Was it a mirage?

Carl Williams was out there.

He didn't start, but I watch #69 every time he was on the field and he recorded 1 tackle.

Brockenbush and Fair have played one game, so we should keep an eye on their game count We lost josh Collins and Smith is injured. Carl is back but still not 100%. We have collected a very talented bunch of freshmen, hopefully we can keep the game count down so in 4 years we aren't replacing the entire defensive front. We will have a great team and although it's one win, I feel confident that this thing is gonna be grand

SAM is having a down year and while I am not hopeful for a win, I am hopeful that we won't get our butts handed to us on Saturday. First time since before Conque that I feel like we have a chance to make the BOTPW a relatively competitive game.

The thing about Sam this season is they're incredibly one dimensional. Offensively they've put up big numbers but almost all of them have been through the air. To one guy.
Defensively they've seemed strong but if you look at who they've played it makes it less impressive. Incarnate Word does NOT look like the team that shocked the SLC last season and McNeese has looked very stagnant on offense other than week 1.
I think throw in the rivalry aspect and we have a very good chance. Our offense is very diverse and can catch them off guard, especially if we get the Trae Self who played against Lamar. And if our defense plays like they did this past week, Sam could be looking at a long night.

I believe SFA has their best chance of winning this game this season than they've had in recent years.

They're coming off a hard fought victory and many players I've talked to believe that Lamar shouldn't have been their only win of the season to this point.

I think the top key for SFA to win this game is to defend their passing game. Sam has thrown ALL over SFA in the recent years and they look to do the same thing right of the gate this season. If SFA can get pressure on the QB1 and make their receivers work downfield, their offense will be extremely limited. Sam isn't a run happy team and despite SFA's run defense, I believe they'll find a way to limit whatever plays they call for the ground game. The pass offense for Sam is lethal we all know that so SFA has the key in on the pass and if they do that, it'll be like taking the tires of a vehicle. Sam won't have no where to go.

I also believe that Trae Self can have another great game if he can just learn to control his arm. He has weapons like Clater, Remi and Gipson. All the running backs can receive passes and turn them into big gains. If self can work in the pocket and have time to throw I believe he'll have a great game.

Lastly I think individual players will need to step up on both sides and show why they're here. We need big games from Quin Jones and Tabow Hendrix despite his injuries. Guys like that who have experienced this before need to step up and lead.

SFA can win this game and easily be back in the hunt for the title. This is their best shot and it's time for them to take it!

I want to win bad, and I think we can. I don't know if we could be in a title hunt regardless. Trashing Sam will be its own reward though.

QB pressure will be huge. I would say that at best it's been a wash offense to defense, but if we can get to them without the same to us, we will win.

I agree. I really believe they can win idc about all the freshmen. I think they can get this. They just gotta convert when their in the red zone and stop big passing plays. If they do that I believe that they'll win this game.

Won't make the game this year, going to the Astros game. Wish I could attend both, but baby sitters are way to expense now. I'll be keeping up with the game and Axe Em boys.
