Ladyjacks' commit to compete in national three-point contest on CBS

As is the typical cycle in college athletics, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will lose a fair amount of talent to graduation this May. In preparation for this transitional offseason and realizing life without Adrienne Lewis and Taylor Ross, Mark Kellogg's team has been searching far and wide for young talent.

As the spring signing period quickly approaches, one new prospective Ladyjack will have an opportunity to showcase her skills in front of a national audience this weekend.

El Paso Times Burges’ Natalie Sanchez sinks a free throw after an intentional foul was called against an Eastlake player.
Natalie Sanchez, a 5-foot-7 senior guard from El Paso, Texas, is on a short list of eight college prospects selected to compete in the American Family Insurance three-point championships in Phoenix this weekend. Each of the other seven players are commits of Power Five conference schools (with one exception being UConn, the undisputed power one of women's college hoops).

The event will be held on Friday morning but will be broadcasted on CBS with a tape delayed slot for Sunday, April 2nd at 2:30PM Central Time. A men's three-point and dunk contest will take part during the same broadcast.

Sanchez was selected for the contest from a pool of finalists as part of American Family Insurance's #DreamFearlessly fan vote. As a senior at Burges High School, Sanchez averaged 23 points per game, five rebounds, just shy of five assists, four steals and 3.7 three-pointers made - all against 5A competition. Natalie clearly brings a very wide skill set to William R. Johnson Coliseum, a building that she has some familiarity with.

"I've always liked [SFA]," Sanchez said during an interview with the El Paso Times after announcing her commitment in January. "I went to a camp as a freshman and just really liked it there. It's an honor to get to get the chance to play at the next level."

Natalie is expected to sign a letter of intent with SFA during the spring signing period beginning in April. She would be eligible to play this coming November season.

Great story. Seems like a very thoughtful young woman.

Talk about one end of the state to the other. Just think of how many people in the El Paso area would have even heard of SFA. Lucky for us she attended a camp and fell in love with what we all know too well. Glad to have her!

Along with fellow recruit Marissa Banfield from Houston, the Ladyjacks should be deadly from beyond the arc for the next four years.

Greenway High School is not that far (15 miles) from me. I wonder if they will let people watch the taping?

lol I think I missed something but at the 3 point contest Natalie said she is committed to Southern Utah. I was sitting here waiting for here to say sfa. She said southern Utah twice. She finished 3rd by the way

To my knowledge, nothing has changed in her commitment. It's verbal only at this point, so you never know.
