The 2026 season will have 127 FCS programs. Chicago State became an NEC member last July, but its start-up football program will not be a part of the conference standings (still eight schools) this year.

West Florida, a D-II football program, is building a $40 million stadium.
North Alabama will open a new 10,000 seat stadium this Fall. $65 million.

Honestly, the MWC would be a better fit. CUSA is just not that great of a conference. But I'll gladly take any team that could beat Sam and not give them a bowl game.

From reading C-USA forums the conference looks like it's starting to think more about regionality for newer schools. Odd since they added Delaware, Kennesaw State, and Missouri State, but maybe they realized all of their schools don't have that much money and shorter travel distances would help them.
At this rate C-USA is essentially an FCS conference with better TV deals competing for bowl games.

Exactly why I treat it as that. TV Deals, sure, but CBS Network versus ESPN+? I would take ESPN+ in a heartbeat. The only benefit is the bowls; besides that, it is still a messy travel schedule. I'd rather stick with Southland for a while. Give us easy access to compete for an FCS Title versus a meaningless bowl game that will probably not exist in the near future.

FCS Fans Nation is reporting that Tarleton State is being targetted for membership by CUSA again.
The NCAA has made slight changes to the punishment for targeting.

ACU and PVAMU are gonna feel like must wins. They're gonna be our only quality OOC games, and judging by the transfer portal moves, the SLC will not be as strong in football in 2026 as it was in 2025. Gonna need those quality wins as insurance in case we stumble in SLC play. It doesn't help our first two games are conference games with a new starting QB and entirely new defense.

McNeese to CUSA is a joke. I feel like their travel budget would bankrupt them unless they only had Football, Basketball (Men and Women), and Softball. Even football would be at the bottom of the barrel.
UAC is a bit of a better fit, but even then, it will hurt them long-term.

The only SLC school who could feasibly go to C-USA is us, and we still have some infrastructure work to do before we would be ready. McNeese just doesn't have the budget for it.
