The Kiffin thing shows just what an atrocious idea NIL has become. 25 million a year of his contract is for NIL so he can buy the best players out there. No loyalty except to the dollar. No cares about what "school" they are playing for---just absolute mercenaries grabbing money. REAL college football is extinct at least at the FBS levels which is of course what those richer universities want--more money and power.
This NIL baloney needs a complete overhaul with real limits on how much a "school" can hand out but now that the system is already corrupt with all the $$ and coaches calling kids trying to buy them over to their school, I don't believe that it will ever be repaired. Then those that come later would sue everyone because they were "cheated" out of big paydays.
Terrible plan with no thought given to how to keep it under control. All done for the big money schools.
The "top" 30-40 schools need to just move on and become their own super conference or competitor to the NFL.
Then the rest of the universities--under a revamped NCAA like group---could perhaps run their own brand of college football with realistic limits that would fit the smaller budgets of the remaining group.
Instead I fear that schools like SFA and many others will end up without football or at lower level like D2 because they just can't find the money just to continue as they are---the Big money will destroy it all.

Hearing Mike Mutz is the favorite to get the Georgia Southern DC spot. He was their LB coach a decade ago.

Idk how accurate my info on that is but the Georgia Southern fans are certainly all excited about it and predicting it.

LA Tech AD Ryan Ivey announced their head coach Sonny Gumbie is returning, 2026 season will be the final year of his contract.

Gumbie has a record of 18-31 at Louisiana Tech and 2025 was his best season at 7-5 finishing 4th in Conference USA.

9th, 6th, 5th, 4th in 4 seasons so he does have the program going in the right direction, but 2026 better be something special though you would have to think to get an extension.

It's pretty dumb to fire a coach after one season given the team he inherited. Yes Sam won 10 games a year ago but they were absolutely destroyed in the transfer portal and basically were in complete rebuild mode.

You should always give a coach, especially in college 3-4 years to get his system in place, get his recruits, and everything before deciding it's not going to work.

Yes sometimes new hires can have an immediate impact and have immediate success but more often than not you're starting over with every head coach hiring and it's going to take a few years to get that coaches system in place.

And I'm not just saying that because I hope we somehow get to play that dumpster fire of a team before they fire Longo.

On top of that I doubt Sam can afford his buyout and hire his replacement.

Tbh, I really hope we have started a defensive coordinator search silently. I will be very surprised if we can retain Mike Mutz after this season, he's gonna get nabbed by an FBS school, and I would like to have his replacement in the building asap to try and keep some of our defensive talent from following Mutz wherever he goes and to be able to bring in guys to fit a new defensive system.

Fair. I remember him losing the locker room and not going to team meetings. Doesn't seem like a great guy to work with as a coach.
