This story appeared in today's Houston Chronicle. It hits the nail on the head. The NCAA has created a Pandora's Box that will be hard to ever bring back into control... The "out of control" transfer portal plus the "out of control" NIL madness have created a witch's brew.

And in related news, University of Houston basketball and Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale (one of the wealthiest men in Houston) have struck a $1 million deal for the '23-'24 season. This comes after he had a seven-figure deal with UH in the '22-'23 season.

SFA can never compete with this kind of pay-for-play madness.

Basically it is the disaster that many of us knew it would be. It is just another rich get richer schemes that is all to common in this country. The NCAA itself is a joke whose only interest is the $$ they can make and since the Big schools make the money then they make the rules and call all the shots.
Personally I wish the Big schools would just go on and make their own super conference and get out on their own. Become their own major league and then perhaps all the "lesser" schools could return to some sense of what college athletics is supposed to be.

Everyone knows that football is going to force a fissure. The largest (SEC, BIG 10, BIG12 + whatever frankenconference becomes of the PAC+some MWC pieces).

What is left after that, will probably be a hybrid of what we see today and scholarship athletics of the past 60+ years.

The latest to weigh in on the NIL/transfer portal 'disaster', Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin...
