The landscape of college athletics is about to change drastically. There are 5 other states where the law will go into effect on July 1st.

NEW: In a victory for college athletes, SCOTUS unanimously invalidates a portion of the NCAA's "amateurism" rules. The court says the NCAA can no longer bar colleges from providing athletes with education-related benefits such as free laptops or paid post-graduate internships.

And, the rich will get richer. How much of these additional benefits can SFA afford under current conditions? We must have more revenue.TallTexan said:
Not exactly NIL, but the NCAA just got blasted at SCOTUS.NEW: In a victory for college athletes, SCOTUS unanimously invalidates a portion of the NCAA's "amateurism" rules. There are some things that need to be purged from your memory banks, Texan.TallTexan said:
Great NIL adjacent read.
Also inspiration for Ed and Nacluth to start monetizing their competitive interpretive dance duo.
Not yet. It's become a huge club sport like ultimate. Midwest mainly, but Jay Reading (former champ) has been building a solid program at Texas State. Paige Pierce, far and away the best women's player in the world, is from Dallas, and that has built interest at their universities.TallTexan said:
Is Disc golf a college sport yet? Like for schollies?
Believe me Ed, I wish I could purge the images from your & the guitar maker's Apple Bottom Jeans spirit team audition tape from my memory but nothing I've found has worked, not even eye bleach.SFA Jack Fanatic said:There are some things that need to be purged from your memory banks, Texan.TallTexan said:

Now, where this causes issues is with Title IX and non-revenue sports. That is where I see things starting to get sticky...

Agreed, I think it will kill a lot of these sports.
Enjoyed talking college athletics, NIL, HEERF, FRS reports, apples, rocket ships, and more with @MattBrownEP and @BryanDFischer. Thanks for having me!https://t.co/1aoMLz3ZHw

Doesn't seem wrong if you can find a company to shell out about $1M for advertising like this company. I'm all for helping out the overlooked student athlete and I like what they are doing here, but expanding the marketplace will continue to create more disparities between the top leagues and the lower tiers.
Maybe it was a pipe dream that SFA could have made a strong 10 year push (starting about 8 years ago) to move up into a mid-level league. However, it looks like we're going to try to compete to be a really good low-league team for the foreseeable future. (Unless TallTexan hits it big for all of us.)
Question, what do you think the yearly amount per player is that would put SFA above it's peers in recruiting?TallTexan said:
I wonder if we could use NIL to our advantage to build up a women's sport of ours to punch above its weight.
I'm thinking Basketball or maybe soccer. If we can marshall our resources and maybe a few local businesses to sponsor an entire team, even for a relatively small amount per month, we'd probably win over most of our other FCS peers.

Stop the bleeding, or at least slow it down. The NCAA is definitely committing suicide.PurpleOut said:

But things are already massively out of hand. Right now it's nothing but "pay for play" and adjustments are 100% needed.
