I played with McBeth before in Dallas. I've made about $3K playing disc golf over 15 years before I slowed down with kids. Getting pro players paid was a huge deal. The college game is going to blow up if they can earn cash.

That's awesome. My brother has started getting into it.

I've considered playing more but haven't really since we left Austin.

Debated that with a student a little bit a while back. He was an okay baseball recruit, but his younger brother was a very good baseball recruit that will be at McNeese next year.

The both did the camp circuits, and yes, their alumni and all can afford more. No, it doesn't help us.

What the student pointed out though, was the facilities already have us beat. You aren't going to see a kid stroll out to Jaycees Field after a trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas or Oxford, Mississippi and say, "I want this". When it comes to recruiting, this won't be as big of a deal.

Now, where this causes issues is with Title IX and non-revenue sports. That is where I see things starting to get sticky...

Not yet. It's become a huge club sport like ultimate. Midwest mainly, but Jay Reading (former champ) has been building a solid program at Texas State. Paige Pierce, far and away the best women's player in the world, is from Dallas, and that has built interest at their universities.

Maybe at the smedium sized schools.

I don't see it killing many at SFA, but I also don't see ours getting a ton of new benefits.

And I'd guess that with things like paid internships, we'd set up a program to bring in employers and that would be open to all athletes to apply.

Doesn't seem wrong if you can find a company to shell out about $1M for advertising like this company. I'm all for helping out the overlooked student athlete and I like what they are doing here, but expanding the marketplace will continue to create more disparities between the top leagues and the lower tiers.

Maybe it was a pipe dream that SFA could have made a strong 10 year push (starting about 8 years ago) to move up into a mid-level league. However, it looks like we're going to try to compete to be a really good low-league team for the foreseeable future. (Unless TallTexan hits it big for all of us.)

Personally, I don't like the direction in which all of this NIL stuff is headed. What's next? The UIL allowing high schoolers to be compensated? We're moving into a era in which loyalty to school and team is an after-thought and "It's all about me". The NCAA has opened Pandora's box and amateurism at all levels is fast becoming a thing of the past. Just my opinion, and disagree if you wish.

I will devote my every waking moment to making SFA's ship come in.

For real though, I think we're probably not ever moving to current FBS, barring a 10 year run as the NDSU of Texas.

But, if we get good, there's a chance that all but 32 teams in the FBS might come back to us. Texas, OSU, and Bama aren't going to want to play Mississippi State and Purdue forever.

And when that happens, I think you'll see a 10 league gf conference form that's "the best of the rest" league. Will comprise the high majors that aren't really high majors like Texas Tech on down to your upper level FCS like SFA/Sam/ACU.

Budgets probably run from 30 million to maybe a cap of 75 for parity. I think that's probably the future of college football.

A Premier League, a best of the rest league, and then FCS. And you'll have extremely fun sports in league 2 and 3.

I wonder if we could use NIL to our advantage to build up a women's sport of ours to punch above its weight.

I'm thinking Basketball or maybe soccer. If we can marshall our resources and maybe a few local businesses to sponsor an entire team, even for a relatively small amount per month, we'd probably win over most of our other FCS peers.

Question, what do you think the yearly amount per player is that would put SFA above it's peers in recruiting?

Like what will it take for us to get better players than TX State, UNT, Rice, etc? Sure, we're not gonna be able to recruit better using NIL than Texas or Baylor, but can we help Kellogg or Minatta punch above our weight?

Is that number 500 a year? 2 grand a year? 500 a month? Thoughts?
