Big time pickup! Williams had a more than a dozen scholarship offers from Power Five schools but chose Nebraska over Texas, Florida and Louisville. Did not play last season for the Cornhuskers.

Why did he not play last year? Hope it was just a team depth issue.

EDIT: Yes, it was apparently a lack of playing time issue. Nebraska had added five other defensive backs, two from the portal and three prep prospects.

Williams is a heck of an athlete. Also ran a leg on the Georgia AAAAAA state champion 4x100 relay. Qualified for state in the 200. School record in the long jump.

The Ace in Coach Carthels hand is that Mr Mendoza's other half is a Nursing major and she was very very impressed with our School of Nursing on our visit.. It takes everyone getting involved to make our University a place where one would want to get their degree..We got a good shot at getting them to Nacogdoches..

Focus has, appropriately, been on the chaos created by NIL and the transfer portal. Add to that the lifting of the 25 annual counter limit for football. I did not understand what the impact could be.

SFA had a much needed DB just about in when this came out last week. Almost immediately, he had four or five FBS offers from schools that had maxed out their counters.

There was a recent conversation with an FBS coach where he said to be patient. With the counter limit gone, for at least two years, they were recruiting guys that will displace some currently on the team. Those guys will then be available. Damn the ethics. Damn the for the good of the kids.

Three coaches at the well attended gathering in Tyler last night. Keller, Kellogg, and Carthel. Well, four counting the high quality volunteer volleyball assistant. The common theme is that they are frustrated and tired. Kellogg drove by himself because he had three recruiting calls to make on the way there, and another scheduled for 8:45. May used to be the one month of the year that they could get a bit of a break. Not the case now. On a bright note, all three are positive about their coming season.
